In the fridge...what is the safest way to store leftover canned food? I am slowly adding canned food to my kitties diet so I have a 2 day supply from one can right now. Is it safe to store it in the can or should I remove the leftover food to a covered glass dish?
Thanks for your feedback

My mom uses a cat food lid and stores it in the fridge. When it's time to feed her cats, she just heats it up in the microwave for about 20 seconds. You can store it in a covered glass dish too. Either way is fine.

You can store it in the fridge, in the can. You just want to keep it covered. They make special caps for canned food, or you can use surran wrap or aluminum foil.

A friend who is a breeder and shows dogs told me covered and fridged cans are good a week... I try for no more than 48 hours

Like everyone else said, can is ok. I store both my dog and cat food in the fridge. And each one has a Can lid

I hate to bring it up because I can't remember the details but there is a specific reason (possibly toxins getting into the food or something once the can is opened?) that I stopped leaving leftovers in the cans. I put the leftovers in a plastic zip lock baggie now.

Nern details are great but thank you for caring enough to remind or tell us

I think you might be referring to the aluminum leeching into the food.
But this would depend on how long you leave it in the can, I suspect.
If a can lasts a week (which I can't imagine how it would) I would put it in a plastic container.

One can lasts me (well the cat
) one day so I just cover with a lid.
