Truth is, I've done so many reviews, I was running out of cat foods to review, and this was new. So yah, I knew the ingredients were ucky before I let them try it, but man, their reaction was something!

i know, this is SO annoying! i keep trying new, healthy foods for my indoor babies...they keep begging for the friskies i buy for the outside cats... what to do, what to do - they are driving me crazy!
i think i'm going to try the chicken soup, & if they don't respond, we're going back to natural balance
- at least Pixel seemed to like it ok! these new cats - you'd think they'd eat anything, having been strays, but NO!

I think they are born trained...now when you have a home, you train your human this way... hah! It's genetically coded, a feline finicky gene!

I use Kit 'N Kaboom Le with KiKi. Here's my problem- I'm guilty of not giving her of the proper nutrition she deserves- and both she and I are suffering because of it. I can't afford to buy her any of the healthier foods (not that I would know what is THE BEST for her.) My problem is that yes she eats the food just great but is putting out some REALLY BAD gas. What do I give her something for the gas?

The only thing you can do for the gas is to switch your cat to a better higher quality diet.  Kit N Kaboodle is full of ingredients cats shouldn't have and have a hard time digesting, hence causing the gas.  Cats are carnivores.  Find a higher quality diet for your cat and the gas will probably go away.

I guess I'll have to put up with the flatulence until I buy the next bag of cat food. I simply just go out and buy another bag mid-stream. What do you recommend?

I meant to say I'm trying to find a veterinarian who can take payments.

I think the Chicken Soup website has a store locator.

If you're stuck with grocery-store foods, Purina Cat Chow Naturals is actually pretty good and only costs a little bit more than regular Cat Chow. It can be hard to find but if you can find it, it's a fine choice. Purina ONE or Iams would be OK too but are a little pricey. If you can't find Naturals, regular Cat Chow wouldn't be too bad. The worst brand-name dry foods are Kit 'n' Kaboodle and Alley Cat---they really have no meat at all. Meow Mix isn't too much better. Friskies and Cat Chow are a step up, but Friskies has so much coloring that I prefer Cat Chow.

It would also be nice to try to fit in some canned food when you can---it has more meat protein and the moisture cats need. Try to stick with brand names like Friskies or Nine Lives and not dollar store brands.

Thanks for helping me out with this. KiKi really deserves to be well as my family- me, my husband, and our son. I'm not saying that we're eating proper nutrition but we are eating some decent food. It did take some doing but I did find a cat litter I'm satisfied with. Now I'm trying to find a good cat food and a great veterinarian who can work with our budget.

I'd like to add my two cents about grocery store brands - in my area, Kroger now carries Nutrisource. It's considered a premium brand, and it's pretty darn good if you must feed dry.  Additionally, Wal-mart carries their own premium line called Evolve. I'd say it's comparable to Chicken Soup and some of the Nutro cat food.

I also second the idea of feeding at least a low-quality wet food if at all possible. I feed Friskies Special Diet canned mixed with water and some grain-free high protein kibble on the side. I feed 3 cats on $24 a month that way. Good nutrition can be had on an extreme budget, boy do I ever know! :)

Ok, I can try the one at Walmart and see how that goes. I did rescue from a worse situation but I'm not giving her the best care she deserves because of my income. I'll see if I restructure my expenses to include her vet care and include the best food I can afford to buy.

Chicken and chicken meal are the first two ingredients which is better than kit N kaboodle but for that price I would go to tractor supply, petco, ect. and get something with better ingredients for the same price.

I fed this when I lived in a small town and only had access to the feed store and walmart. I was really happy with Chicken Soup!! Before I found chicken Soup, I found Walmart's KITTEN brand to be pretty decent. Not many grains. Chicken meal first ingredient, etc. that was about 8 years ago. I would be surprised if both of these brands haven't changed!! Good luck!!!

Oh!!! It seems wellness dry (bag says NOW Even Tastier!) has changed its formula and is causing HORRIBLE gas and loose stools in the kitties eating it. :( I would stay away from wellness.

I think wellness' issue is the addition of MORE magnesium. Magnesium is used as a stool softener/laxative in HUMANS! So adding MORE to a cat food might really cause some problems!!!

Sorry I've missed the last few days. My aunt passed away yesterday. So, there's been a lot going on trying to coordinate things. I haven't slept in about 36 hours.

KiKi has also dealt with confusion as well. I'm going to have a knee replacement and won't be able to handle the stairs that well. So, my son and I have switched bedrooms- I moved from the upstairs bedroom to the downstairs bedroom. So, KiKi's been whining when she needs to use the litter box- she still thinks its upstairs. So I'll go pick her up, pet her, and take her to her litter box in our new bedroom. We live in a very small apartment so that's why it's not kept in a spot other than our bedroom.

The only other whining she does is when she's ready to sleep and I'm not there. Usually she doesn't whine as long as I'm in bed with her or if she can lie on the couch next to me. When I'm ready for a nap I pick her up and take her to bed with me.

As far as the feeding goes, she's eating dry only right now until a new bag on payday. And I think we're gonna try a small bag of Rachel Ray's Nutrish. I couldn't find the Evolve.

Well, I'm gonna let you all go for now. I'm drained.
