I will be moving to a new house in a couple of weeks and Katie has started to pee on my bed and sofa, she is not happy. Could there be a way to make this less stressful on Katie? I feel so bad for her, I don't want Katie to feel any stress, so one of the things I've been doing is when I start to do any packing or moving of the boxes, I either put Katie out side or put Katie in my room with some music on. I am looking for any advice that someone might have.

I would not put her outside, you could lose her. Set up a special corner in one room, with a favorite chair, and some other items Katie likes that you will be able to pack up last minute. Let that be her spot and don't move a thing. Work around her instead understanding that she senses there is a change in the routine, and cats love routine. She is going to be stressed, that is a given, depending on her history. You can minimize the stress by keeping a Katie Korner, and using a comfort zone room diffuser as well as Bach's flower remedy Aspen or Beech are two I would look into

First of all, i just want to applaud you and give you warm hugs for being so sensitive to your Katie.
Instead of seeing her as being "bad" you recognize that she's going through something. God love you for that!

So, you haven't moved yet, but the act of packing up is what's stressing her out? She senses something is going on and it's upsetting her? Aren't cats incredibly sensitive? Bless her heart.

I'm sorry I don't have any great advice, only that you give her extra attention and try to make things as normal as possible. She'll get to the new house and smell all the new smells and adjust. I know moving is hard. I really hated moving with my cats.

I just had to reply because of your thoughtful post. Katie's a lucky girl. =)

If she is peeing in unusual spots... I would really take her to the vet to rule out urinary problems. Then, if she gets a clean bill of health, go with the others advice.

I am a psych nurse, so I am biased.

But since she is so stressed now, could the vet give her buspar or some other medication for stress? Just something short term to get her past the move? You would still need to do the behavioral interventions, but maybe she wouldn't be so uncomfortable. And then the new home can be a more pleasant place for her, rather than a source of stress.

I also think when you get to the new home, maybe she should be shut in one room to start. Give her time to adjust to a small space, then allow her to expand her comfort zone at her pace.

Good luck, I am sure that having a caring Meowmie will make the transition easier for her!

Hi sashacat.
Katie is 12 years old. She is a beautiful grey and white Tabby. Katie has a loving, gentile, and has a more reserved personality. She is a one person cat and she is glued to me. Katie loves to play, but only with me… Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m not sure why she is like that. She loves to play ping pong with me; she is very good at it. Of course Katie uses her paw when hitting it back and if it rolls away she will run and lay on it until we are ready for another round. Katie is so sweet, she loves her picture being taken; itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s all most like she poses every time. Katie is an indoor/outdoor cat, she use to go on her wild outdoor adventures when she was younger and would not return until late at night, she had me worried sick; but now she just lounges on the deck for a little while and wants back in. I love Katie so much, she is my little angel.
