All of you that perhaps have a desk job like I do, does your butt ever go numb? Jerry was telling me last night that he heard that there is underwear that you can wear for people like me that sit alot that every half hour massages your butt for you. It's battery operated. Was he pulling my leg? Have you guys ever heard of this?

Funny, but true! I try to stand up a few times a day and stretch my legs. But on a day like today, Im so tired and just sitting embracing the numbness!

I usually am up and down here at work - but the other night my legs did fall asleep at home - cat was stretched out sleeping and I didn't want to disturb him!

I to immediately thought of the woman in the supermarket!

I have that problem when I sit too long in "The Library", with newspaper or interesting book, and then when I try to "finish the paperwork" and get up, I find that my butt and legs have "gone to sleep", and so there I stand, holding onto the basin, cabinet doors, or whatever, while the feeling tingles its way back into the nether regions.

If someone yelled "tornado" or whatever along about then, I'd be in a world of hurt ! !

Had an interesting bit of trauma somewhat along those lines last Thursday, and it is STILL not totally cured, but is going in that direction:

Some friends invited me to go on a 4-wheeler excursion in a remote area, and the ride lasted all day for 50 miles and was on rough trails with almost incessant pounding of the butt on the seat, and when I got home that night and hit the showers, I quickly discovered that a HUGE blister had formed and then broken at the base of the spine over the "tail bone" extension, or caudal appendage, and I hadn't noticed it because of all the other attention-getting aspects of the ride, the potholes, rocks, cliffs, drop-offs, etc.

I believe there was significant bruising accompanied the blister, also.

My machine, a large Honda, has likely the best cushioning, suspension, and ride of any 4-wheeler, but apparently my little scrawny butt just didn't have sufficient padding.

My wife found some egg-shell foam pieces in the attic, and they have been invaluable, and I think when I go back out on the 4-wheeler, they will accompany me for added insurance.

I sit a lot at work, but at any chance get up and walk around the office. Ususally at least once an hour, I walk about 100ft. And I go to the basement 4-5 times daily, so that gets the circulation flowing.

Have you tried getting a better chair, or at least adding a seat cushion?

Ah, butt numbness and the whole phenomenon ass_ociated with it...

Yah, I have a desk job, but I type standing up most of the time. I go out for walks. I pace. I also have 3 lb. weights I keep at my desk to work out my upper bod inbetween all the email madness.

Also, you can do butt exercises at your desk! Did you know that? Just kind of tighten your buttock muscles, glutes or whatever they are called... just don't let ppl see you, they'll think you are cranking one out!!!

I get numb-butt while driving, too, which SUCKS! I like ta drive and I think the sole reason I drive so insanely is cuz of the whole fear of numb butt! Keep the legs working on the gas & clutch and it keeps the blood flowing.

Somedays at work I WISH AND PRAY I could sit more! I'm more like up and down every minute. Litterally some days! Like today....get up to help one student, grade half a paper, get up to help another student, grade the second half (If I'm lucky) I enjoy a little butt numbness every now and then!
