Why is she being so petty?

If I were you, I would book the appointment yourself and then tell her the date! I am sure if you ask, at least one of the vets will speak English! I know that Germans are fantastic at learning languages and they learn English from the age of 5! One must speak it! If you find and English speaking Vet, couldn't you get a taxi or have your boyfriend take you?

its far to walk with a cat. and i dont know why i am relying on her.
She always makes it out as if she "knows everything"
people make me so mad.
I had to tell y mum the truth that teufel wasnt neutered yet. and she is pretty peed

Bf's mum has to have "time off to drive me there incase teufels stiches come open"

So what about a taxi?. I'm independant, but that would make me want to organise it myself on purpose because it sounds like she gets a kick out of you having to rely on her!.

I agree with Susan Fwan. It sounds as though she enjoys keeping you on a short leash. Get a taxi to take you without any word to her and then afterwards let her know that she won't need to bother because you've already taken care of everything yourself. She needs to see that controlling you doesn't quite work.

Teufel may not need stitches! When Tibby was neutered, he didn't have any stitches at all! When they finished the procedure, they just tucked all the skin inside to seal it! He healed really well and we didn't have to worry about stiches! Maybe you should ask if they do it that way - or if it is an option!

I think they just want to know that you can get there in an emergency if anything gos wrong. When Guin was done I relied on taxi's as I don't drive either. Maybe take a taxi to the vets and have bf's mum on standby whilst T is in the vets having the op. At least she can go to work then come back if theres an emergency? (this of course if she works nearby).

Or can you just hang about the local area whilst he is being done, go shopping etc? Is there anything you can do? You can give them a mobile number. I hope some of this helps, I dunno what else to suggest.

Guin had soluable stitches. He just had to go back to the vet 1 week after he was done for a check up to see if it was healing and that he was okay etc.

BF gave me a fright as he just came home.
He just called hte vet and told me to not to rely on his mother because by now i should know how she is and he is right.
Just like what susan has said she has done it over and over again.
My head is just full!

The vet is closed because its wednesday, germany has a really screwed policy that all doctors and dentists and vets are closed wednesday.. so they go to universities?????

okay what ever tomorrow is a holiday so they are closed too

ohh my god if i keep on getting angry i will blow up my head

Calm down chick!, don't let it stress you or Teufel will sense it as well

Leave it until friday to ring them and make the appointment then, but don't tell the MIL because she'll talk you round to doing it her way!.

I pretty much agree with everyone else...
I don't have a car either and don't plan on driving in the near future..
I have learned to NEVER depend on anyone.
As then you are always waiting and under the control of someone else.
Don't worry, its just two days! Calm down, have a cuppa and do it yourself!
You will feel better about it too!

Teufel, give mum kisses now!

fwan, my guess would be that just about all vets in Germany speak at least basic English (possibly excluding those who grew up in eastern Germany), and many are fluent. They had to do the Abitur in order to study, and that means at least 6 years of English, even for older vets, and many keep up on international publications, which are primarily in English. The vet's receptionist may not speak very good English, but should speak some, so if there's a problem making an appointment, have Ben call. It's not usual for male cats to get stitches here after being castrated - I've never encountered that, and I've taken lots of cats to be "fixed". Normally, you drop the cat off early in the morning, and pick him up in the late afternoon or early evening. Taxis will transport cats in carriers (Transportkäfig) - in Baden-Württemberg, they're required to, and I can't imagine it being much different where you are. Call the night before, tell them you have to drop off the cat at the vet's (Meine Katze muss zum Tierarzt, und wird in einem Transportkäfig sein), and what time they should pick you up. The driver can wait while you take Teufel in (Bitte warten Sie, ich muss bloß die Katze abliefern), and then drive you back home, and you can make arrangements to pick him up by taxi once you know the time. Ben might even be home from work by then.
Don't feed Teufel after eight the night before; some vets also say the cat shouldn't have any water, while others say plain water isn't a problem. You'll probably get a little sheet of instructions from the vet on post-op care in German, which Ben can translate for you. Most of the instructions will apply to females. Teufel may be a bit groggy and/or nauseated that evening, but should be pretty much back to normal the next day.

thank you tricia.
Well im not talking to bens mum for a bit, ive unplugged all phones (well bf did) she wouldnt stop calling!

The vet told her not to give him any water also so thats what i will do.
On friday ben will call the vet and make the appointment.
Because today noone answered the phone, and tomorrow its a holiday here in NRW
I can carry teufel down to the vet. and i would wait untill bf came back from work to pick him up.
I think bf's mum was just making a big fuss out of it and i dont like people who try to controll things so yeah.. hmm. well im not angry anymore ive played with teufel for a bit and chatted for a bit so ive calmed down a lot

Thank you tricia. I will keep in mind of having a taxi driver handy

When I had Bakker neutered in March (?) I withheld food the night before, I dropped him off at vet's office by 7:30 am and by 10:00 am the vet called and said he was done and already coming out of anesthisia (sorry spelling)I picked him up at 5:00 pm and he ran out of the carrier, ate and bothered the other cats right away. You would never know what happened.
I would take a taxi and not rely on the evil "MIL".
Don't stress yourself out!!!!

Ben's mom seems to be having some problems letting go, and has set herself up as your rival. If you're afraid of getting stuck for an interpreter when Ben isn't around, PM/or email me your phone number(s). I'll PM my home/mobile numbers.
