I have read in many message boards that plastic bowls are not good. My dogs use stainless but I have for my whole life used plastic for the cats and have never had any problems. Should I be concerned now or not worry since my cats have had no reaction, I think. Thanks in advance.

The bad thing I have heard about plastic, and learned first hand. Is that no matter how much you wash it...bacteria can build in it. in the little crevises and such. And I first hand learned, when my dear Jellie got a pyroderma on her chinny chin from the plastic dishes.

So we moved to ceramic. Picked up a bunch of bowls from the thrift store
plates too for wet food.(everyone has their own too)

And we have no more pyroderma

Edited to note, that we do use a thick plastic water dish but its an automatic watere and has microban stuff on it

I use plastic water bowls, but run them through the dishwasher several times a week. I haven't had any trouble, but since reading this I will check for ceramic bowls or stainless. My cats share a water bowl with the dog, so they need a large bowl or she will drink it all sometimes!

I gather bacteria can be a problem on plastic dishes, though I used plastic dishes for years with no problems. The matter is academic now, since they all have ceramic dishes, started by a gift to [RB] Shasta, which has been handed down.

Thank you all for your kind responses. Having so many cats I use the bistro automatic feeders and waterers and don't seem to have any problem. Do they make autos with ceramic bowls?

We alternate with bowls - stainless steel, ceramic and plastic - the ceramic ones are always getting broken so they are expensive to keep replacing!
