Our little mommy Pepsi, who had her first—and only—litter of kittens three weeks ago, jumped up on the bed last night after we went to bed. She meowed at us, but didn't want petted. (We thought maybe she was looking for a kitten; she'll take them back from us after she thinks we've had them long enough.
) She walked to the foot of the bed and looked at us as if to say, follow me. We didn't respond right away, so she walked back up to the head of the bed, meowed, then walked down to the foot of the bed again.

I got up and followed her into our closet, where the kittens are. Then I saw the trouble. They can now get out of the box! She wanted to nurse but couldn't get the rugrats to stay put. She'd pick one up and put it in, then as soon as she ran to get another one, the first one would climb back out. Poor baby! It's tough being a single mom.
Good thing she's got a "support system."

She does, which is great. She was a feral kitten till about three months of age, and it's taken us the year and a half since we got her to get her to trust us to the extent that she does. She loves to be on our bed when we're on it to be petted but is still afraid of things moving toward her, like arms or legs. So we were worried that she might try to keep her kittens from us or "train" them to be afraid of people.

So far she's been the best mommy and, after a short stint under the bed where we couldn't reach them (King size bed), now is fine with us being around her and the kittens.
