Hi, we have just adopted a stray kitten. She is maybe about 8-10 weeks old? She's clean, no fleas/ticks. But her butt is SO stinky. I don't see any inflamation or redness or anything. Her stool comes out normally, no constipation or diarrhea. The nearest vet is a very far drive from us. Does anyone know what may be causing the odor? Thanks so much!

She probably hasn't learned to bathe herself properly yet. Kittens aren't really ready to be separated from their mothers until they're at least 12 weeks old. It could be her food also, do you think she may have gas?
(
funny but legitimate question)

Also, being that she was a stray, there's really no telling what she had been eating before you took her in.

You should, however, get her to a vet asap. Whenever you bring a new animal into your home you should get him/her checked out to rule out disease/sickness/fleas, etc. I hope you can get her to a vet quickly. (=

Yeah, I was thinking it may be from whatever nastiness she was eating outside. Thanks for your responses!

I too would suggest you get her to the vet as soon as possible. Have her tested for the known diseases, safely flea-treated- the stink may be from a bacterial or virule infection.

Java's had gas & soft stool since i found her May 2nd. it just recently (Sunday) turned to diarrhea...i took her to a new vet yesterday(1st one didn't catch this) & they did a fecal & found a huge bacterial overgrowth & that's what's causing it. she cleansconstantly - because she itches, probably - & she's sore, as well. you should definitely visit the vet!
