LOL! It's not necessarily a problem, but I AM very curious about this behavoir. Why does my cat (just the one, not the other) smack me when I'm changing his liter? LOL.

The only thing I can think of, is he doesn't like the sound of bag as it crinkles? Then i thought, he might think I have no business messing with his bathroom area? LOL. It's terribly cute, but I don't like that he's feeling threatened enough to smack me over it.

Nunny is a bit neurotic to begin with. And has other weird habits, but this is the one question I have for now.

Thanks!

Just remove him from the room all the times you change his litter. Why he slaps you, is because he wants to. He's a cat, and he can do whatever he pleases.

i think it must be a territory thing, the peeing in the clean box i mean.

Maybe the reason you keep getting a smack is because your removing his scent?

or maybe Hissy's right and it's just because he can and now its become habit!

Maybe you can think of it as a high five?
He's saying "way to go mom, about time for a clean poop box!"

Ours all wait excitedly while my fiance' changes the litter.

As soon as he's done, there are usually two or three in the box at once lol.
Huge, homemade box, we have sand flingers.
It's like a race to see who can mark it first.

LOL! I can do that. It's really funny though. Many of the things he does is funny. What's so funny is whether it's me or John changing it, you'll always hear one of us calling for the other in fear, because he's come to the door and is looking at us like he wants to smack us, lol. We're like, "Honey! Nunny's going to hurt me if you don't come here!" LOL.

Whatever the reason, he is perfectly entitled to his feelings and I'm glad he feels comfortable "sharing" them with me, lol!

Hah... I get watched with mighty curious, wide open eyes by Hammie every time I change the boxes. He is just about the only one who seems baffled by the litter box cleaning process.

He'll walk around me, stare, watch my every move... seems like he's obsessed. Then of course when I'm all done and the box is clean enough to eat off of, he steps in and takes a huge DUMP!!! Almost like he just HAS TO be the first one to stinky up the box????

Both my girls used to be the same way, would sit and pee/poo in the box immediately after I clean it, but they don't do it anymore. Willow used to get the "zoomies" when I changed it, because of the new smell of the litter (but she doesnt' do that anymore either). The only thing that's the same is that when I'm trying to scoop, Buffy always grabs onto the scooper with one or two nails, so I'll be gently pulling, and all she has to do is let go of the scooper and poo goes flying. I've learned how to prevent the poo from flying, but it can be annoying (especially when she dives under the scooper as the litter is falling through, so dirty litter falls on her head and shoulders)

How cute! My Oskar paws at me when I change theirs. I think he is trying to play. They jump in the box while I am cleaning it.
