Do you have to have photoshop to resize pictures?

I'd like to put pictures of my cats in my signature, but I don't have Photoshop, or any program like that other than a cd disk that came with my digital camera (but I don't think you can resize things with it). Is there any other program out that that is free or cheap to use?

You can resize with Paint Shop Pro. It's quite a bit cheaper than Photoshop. I'm not sure, but I think there is a free program called Infan Viewer that you can download that also allows you to resize. I have Photoshop and Paintshop Pro, and I prefer photoshop, because it also lets you save your pictures for the web, which means you can save them so the byte size is low enough for web veiwing. But check on that Infan viewer to see what they have available.

Hope, actually it's "IrfanView." Here's a link to their site:

Irfanview

And here's one to Paint Shop Pro trials(which you can optimize on, all my sigs were made with it, but there is a bit of a learning curve involved since there's not an option that spells out in so many words "Optimize for Web")

Paint Shop Pro

I think the trial is a fully functional time-limited version. It used to be 30 days but I wouldn't be surprised if it's less now.

I'm a die hard PSP fan
, I've used it since version 3.XX, and they're up to V9.0 now.

You can get a free membership at www.photobucket.com, they will help you cut your pictures down to siggy size and then you can link them to put in your siggy! Its a little slow and ornery sometimes, but it's FREE and it works!
Good luck!

Another free program for trimming photos and limited editing capabilities is XnView.

Google also has a new free photo editor calledPicasa.

Of course this assumes you use a PC (I'm a Mac person at heart, but I use photoshop so I'm not sure what the free/easy software is).

There are lots of options.

Using the resizing facility offered by PhotoBucket has already been mentioned, but I find it clunky. (The photo hosting on the other hand is very friendly.) Irfanview is readily available and popular. I have it, but haven't gotten into using it much, because I have been quite satisfied with an old version of ACDSee which came with my first digital camera. It's very user friendly, and while it doesn't do everything, it certainly makes resizing a piece of cake. Here's a link to old versions. FWIW mine is version 3.1b. Good luck. We're waiting to see pics.

Do you have dial-up, or cable? Downloading some of the free stuff on dial-up can take FOREVER. Do you have access to a fast hookup at work? maybe you can take a cd & burn some stuff..or even ask around. others may already have free copies of that software & will let you borrow it to download.
Also you can look at downloads.com, or freeware.com or limewire..
I have photoshop elements, it's alot cheaper than regular photoshop & does the trick.

Thank you for the advice everyone! I have a photobucket account that I've saved a few pictures of my cats on, but I had no idea you could resize them there. I will check that out. My fiancee has the digital camera right now (he's working at Cedar Point, lucky guy), so I can't post any pictures of my rabbit yet, but I have plenty of kitty pictures.

I tried to make it so that my pictures would show up in my signature, but so far I can only get them to show up in my profile. Argh.

I got it!!! Sorry to keep posting so much! I'm learning as I go and it's helping me to see exactly what my signature looks like while I'm fixing it.

I glad that you kept at it until you got your siggy. I had a difficult time to. I am still learning. Your kitties are adorable.
