As many of you know I do work for a dog and cat food company. Thus I am asked all sorts of questions in various stores... Spring has srung and tis kitten season.. My question is what does a newborn to 3 week old kitten need if there is no mom ( feeding schedule formula amounts etc) and what does the 4 week to weaning( when is weaning) need.... Any help will be greatly appreciated since right now I show them the formula and try to find a store person to help, I have never dealt with a newborn ... and the youngest was a 5-6 week old and that was a decade and a half ago( I am 27 so it was a bit ago and memory isnt there)

Best advice I can give is what you will find here click here , a site by a TCS member. It addresses kitten needs by age up to weaning, and has a recipe for kitten glop. If you haven't read the site yet, I think you will find it helpful.

Hi Sharky,

From birth to weaning KMR is needed. A new born should feed and stimulated (to go potty) at least every 2 hours. I would actually feed and stimulate a new born every time it wakes up. Feeding that small may have to be done with a syringe to ensure they are getting the nurishment. I don't know the actual amount but a new born kitten will usually suck themselves back to sleep. The bottle nipples sold in stores are very hard for a new born kitten to use ( I actually order my bottles and nipples from a special source that has nipples that are softer and more suple than the ones in the store.

More on this later ....
