to find loving homes for some kittens.

I found four outside my house. I am taking care of the smaller one (the runt) and I go out and feed the others ( I think they live under my house). I am unable to take them all in because I have a huge dog. I have called just about every foundation and kitten care places (they are full!). I don't know what to do. I don't know if I can afford to get them all shots, but I need to get them from outside. I feed them and they are able to eat and drink out of a dish I put outside.

If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate them. I am in the Pasadena/Los Angeles area in California. I don't want to take them to the pound. should I stand outside a store with them? I called a lady earlier in the week who does adoptions at a local pet store, she never returned my call.

The mother of the kittens is around, but they are getting pretty big (maybe 4-5 weeks) and need to find a home.

Well, if the mother really is around, I personally don't think they should be separated from her at such a young age...

Have you tried the posting on Petfinder Classifieds? Also, those kittens should remain with mom until they are atleast 8 weeks old.

I know you said you contacted foundations and kittens places, but there are many many cat rescues in SoCal, are they all full? Even if so, maybe they can help you out (recommend cheap vet, etc) and let you show the kittens? If you need help finding some names, PM me, I'm in the Los Angeles area too.

www.petfinder.com is also a good place to look for homes.

4-5 weeks is pretty young, I'd wait until at least 8.

Ok, I will try petfinder.

I've never owned a cat so I wasn't sure how long they should be with their mom. Even so, the mom seems to be a stray (she looks really healthy) and they basically live under my house. I don't want to block it off until I know all the kittens have left. I didn't know about the opening under the house until they showed up. I know it's probably better for them under there where no other animal can get to them and they can be out of the heat. I do feed them as much as I can. I bought a box of 24 canned food.

Even if they are supposed to be with their mom, I worry about them living outside. I would love to take them into my house, but like I said I have a dog and he's already angry about the runt cat I have. I can't leave the house without seperating them.

I will look into petfinder though. Thanks for the link.

Also, as a note, you should probably see if you can get the mom spayed as well, so she doesn't go and create more kittens.

Is there a room you could keep this family?? Like a bathroom where your dog wouldn't have access?? Most rescue groups are full because they pull from pounds which euthanize. This woman couldn't take the family..however she may have suggestions:

I don't think I could catch the mother cat. She is too fast. Also, every time I stick out my head to look at the kittens they quickly go under the house again. I have been taking care of the runt kitten for about 5 days now (inside my house). He is doing much better and eats great. He still stumbles when he walks, but I think he'll be ok.

I plan to go to some of the pet stores this weekend when they're having adoptions and talk to the people running them. If someone is willing to adopt them out I would be glad to pay for their shots, but basically every place I called was full. One place already had 160 cats! wow.
Thanks for the link!

I think it would be a GREAT idea to have the mom cat spayed, but I cannot even get near her. I don't know if I could afford that either. It would be smart though.

I think it's too early to give them away though.

My dog is a Corgi/shepard mix. I locked him on one half of the house while the runt kitten was on the other side. I put the kitten in a big box with a banket ontop of the table. (he's too young to climb out). I had to run an errand, but when I got home the dog tore up the carpet to try and get to the other side. So, it's impossible for me to hide the kittens in one room. My dog normally goes wherever he wants in the house and would smell them.

May want to talk to one of your local shelters or resuces. They could let you borrow a safe live trap to get mom caught. They are pretty easy to use.
