How much should they eat?

My kittens are 6 weeks old, and they are eating 6 cans of cat food a day. They eat a little dry food, but I am wondering if they should be eating half and half, or what?

Oh, there are 8 of them - that might make a difference on the 6 cans, LOL!

What size are the cans and are you putting it down in 8 different bowls or are some of the kittens sharing?

At this stage, I like to let them eat as much as they want. In fact, when there are kittens in my home, the rule is that if they come into the kitchen, feed them.

That's so cute.
My babies are downstairs due to our other two cats and dog. I'm using 5.5 ounce cans and I spread it between 2 - 3 bowls and a pie plate that I put the food along the edges. They're little piggies; I should get a trough!

Do you mix hard and canned or just feed canned and let them "snack" on the hard food? (Wow it was easier when momma was doing this, especially the potty stuff!)

I don't mix the dry and canned together but I do leave a large bowl of dry out for them to nibble on throughout the day. The cans are spaced about 5 hours apart - and I always stay around to watch how they behave while eating. Some of the more aggressive ones will try to push the others off of the bowls and that isn't acceptable.

With my two, I leave dry out always, and when I feed CJ, they get canned. That's two times a day. A full can for CJ, Elle, and Mirah. Right now, they only want to eat dry. Well, Elle does, anyway. Mirah eats behing my back. Isn't it funny how kittens do that? Just to worry you, right?

You know, I do have one, the largest, who seems to mostly eat dry food. I think they get enough food, but they do eat me out of house and home, LOL!

I don't think they are nursing anymore either. <sigh> they grow up SO fast!

They probably are nursing... you just don't see it. Mirah is eating... I just don't see it.

True, because Elsa (momma) keeps getting skinnier. But she doesn't "present" herself for nursing (LOL) after they eat - like she used to!
