Just out of general interest, does anyone have experience of a cat with nystagmus? (Wobbly eyes). Mitz always has gone cross eyed when he gets excited or is concentrating on something nearby, and when he's looking at things close to sometimes I see one or both eyes start the up and down wobble. It's intermittent and doesn't seem to bother him in the slightest, there's no other sign at all of neurological trouble and he's had this since he was a kitten, his breeder is interested but hasn't seen it in anyone else in his bloodlines. It's also a clearly stable condition, it hasn't developed or worsened, although when he was a kitten the vet said he might grow out of it. I've worked with children with nystagmus and squints but not a cat! I'd be interested if anyone else has had a cat with this and if so anything that might be helpful to know? I'd take a guess at him being mildly visually impaired, I know depth perception is affected, but he compensates marvellously if so.

Oh me...several of my guys have...the worst is Misty who can get a headshake when trying to really focus. Mervat and Joshua both, had just a degree of eye wobbles, not constant, just at time. Both had relatively long lives, and it never seemed to impact them negatively.

Thankyou! That's very reassuring to know. I'm watching him like a hawk at the moment trying to work out if he does have any visual loss - the kids I've seen with it usually lose depth perception and tracking skills, but if I get da bird out he's got NO trouble following that.
