I recieved a call today that there are two bottle feeders ( a three week old and a four week old ) at one of the local rescue homes and the caregiver is overwhelmed. She would like me to take them on. I am ready, willing and able to take them on but I know my husband will have a cow right now. He's making waves that we already have too many animals in the house and "he wants his house back".

How do I convince him that 2 dogs, 2 cats, 4 foster kitties, a hampster and 2 fishes are not too many animals and that two more little bottle feeders won't make any difference?

Or should I just show up with them (or sneak them in) and hope he can't count the number of cats / kittens around?

I feel guilty for not consulting him about my wish to get more bottle feeders.

Any suggestions?

Ok being blunt here, it sounds to me like you already have your hands full. I have 9 cats, 2 horses and just took in 5 orphaned kittens one week old. Feedings are every two hours because they are health compromised. This leads to some inattention of the other animals, and also my husband at times because the little ones are so demanding and need so much attention. It is commendable that you want to take them in, but I would seriously consider the time it takes to attend to them and talk to your husband first-

Point well taken but I disagree on having my hands full or taking attention away from my husband or the other animals. I work from home as does my husband so he gets lots of attention during the day and in the evening - when he is in town. The dogs and two cats are self sufficient and tend to do their own things during the day (mostly sleeping) and the four little ones are playing around and with me all day. Also, evenings and weekends, my daughter (a future vet) helps with the feedings and needs of all the pets.

I probably should discuss this with him first, but if they are already here he won't say no to caring for them.

i used to have my hands full, with 21 cats, a dog, fishies, and a bird.
so now having only 3 fishies and a kitty i feel pretty empty... but bf says its enough

I would say talk to your husband first. You have to understand his point of view too.

Thanks for your advise all.

I did talk to my husband and although he was hesitant he agreed to taking the two new babies especially since our time with our other four fosters is probably limited (optimistically speaking). He understands that my daughter and I both are doing what we can to help and that we have a natural ability with these babies.

I picked up the two little ones and I am so glad I did. The poor little guys hadn't eaten since yesterday and were sooooo dirty and smelly. They definitely have worms but otherwise seem to be in reasonable good shape. Surprisingly few fleas found. After a feed and a bath and a feed they are both sleeping and purring contentedly

At this point, my nursery is full until Caramel, Peppy, Brutus and Squeakers find new homes
