No need, as I am
happily
married. However, I do have a STRONG opinion! I think a man who is a good petowner will be a good husband and father. Being able to care for someone smaller and weaker shows what he is capable of. And many of the qualities that make a good petowner (especially dog owners) make a good parent. Able to figure out the pet's needs, training the pet, etc.

Good luck with finding a friend.

Actually...you can join to find friends instead of looking for someone to date.

Maybe generally speaking, but here's something to ponder...

A really good friend of mine has always had cats and is absolutely a wonderful cat owner... but he would make a terrible father. He really isn't good with kids at all and I'm not sure he really likes kids much
-- he's married, in his forties and has no children.

My husband on the other hand is an AWESOME husband and father... and that's not just my opinion
-- My friends often comment how good he is as both. He's also the type of guy who when we're at family functions he's hanging around playing with all the kids, not the adults. He carried our daughter around in a papoose when she was little and was the kind of dad not afraid to be involved in it all... even poopie diapers.

He never grew up with pets, is a bit afraid of dogs, and if it weren't for me would go the rest of his life without an animal. Watching him pet the cat is like watching an old woman pet a frog (or some other equally bizarre combination). He's certainly not mean to animals or to Cosmo, but lets just say that bonding is not something that seems to happen (though surprisingly, regardless of him telling me he hated Comere for 11 years, he cried when we put Comere to sleep in March).

So maybe generally speaking you're right -- but there's always exceptions to the rule

Sorry, I have a strong opinion as well. There are many jerks who adore their dogs and treat them with much more respect then they do their own family...my grandfather being one of them. Let alone many horror stories I have heard in the abuse center...loving an animal is a way to get women and many men use that ....Just because someone is *capable* of something, doesn't mean they *practice it* across the board.

Not all men who love animals make good husbands and fathers...way over generalized there.

Yes, there are definitely great guys out there who are not pet people. I didn't mean to imply there weren't. I'm glad your dh is so great with your daughter.
When I first joined the CatSite, I thought the pic in your siggy was you! It took me reading a few posts until I realized that was your dh! LOL!

I cannot think of one person I know who is a good dogowner who is not a good person. I don't mean jerks who love their dogs but treat them like property. I mean caring, thoughtful petowners. Sorry for offending you.

Well, I checked out AnimalAttractions & think it's a good thing to join. I tried joining but got an error message
I'm married,so I'm joining just on a friendship/community level. If I do join, I plan to use the screenname "Cindy'sGal".
As for dating petowners, I think that usu. a man who treats his pet well treats his lady the same. HOWEVER, I did date a man who pampered his 2 pekes, but seemed to put the women in his life under the "yard dog" category - our biggest fight was over the shoddy treatment of his mother, a lovely lady. Also, I've seen men who will be affectionate to the dog, but simulatneously be cold & rejecting to their spouse and/or children - it's not a true affection for the dog, but rather a statement of rejection for the others ommitted from the man's attentions.
I think that you are getting some very interesting feedback on this one. Susan

Laureen...I'll look for you. I'm actually meeting up for lunch with a guy that lives in the same city as I do. No expectations.
