Hello everybody, I recently got little Crumbly, he's 8 weeks old and pure white (but not deaf
) He's my first Cat and getting him was one of the best decisions I've ever made. He seems to be getting along just fine and Ive found a lot of great information on these forums to help him.
I just have a question, he seems to be getting quite bitey now, especially just after he wakes up, only problem is I'm not really sure if he is biting? or just Teething? (it never hurts) any ideas? and whats the best way to deal with this?

OOOH Little Crumbly is ADORABLE!!! If he is 8 weeks old he is most likely he is trying to PLAY with you. Biting is how kittens play with each other and if you don't want to end up with a cat that bites, you have to take the proper precautions now. NEVER and I mean NEVER use your fingers or hands as play toys. I would suggest going out and buying a few cat teasers - toys on a stick - so that you can play with your kitten interactively and he will not associate biting your HAND with playing. You can also play the cat and mouse game - get a few mice and keep them with you whenever you are home and when he is ready to play - throw a mouse across the floor (low to the ground as cats and kittens don't usually look UP to find their prey) and little crumbly should go pounce on it. My cat actually brings some toys back and plays fetch - but that didn't happen until he was older.

Be very careful with toys that have feathers or elastic string - although they do make excellent cat toys they do pose serious choking and other problems. ONLY use these toys with your kitten when you are there to supervise and if you are not there to supervise, LOCK them in a place out of Crumbly's reach.

Good luck with your new baby!

Regards,
Trish

Welcome to the site! Goodness Crumbly sure is a cutie!

I have to agree with Trish's post. Most likely he is playing. The only thing I can add is to get a couple small stuffed animals, make sure they don't have eyes and noses than could be bitten off and swallowed, and when Crumbly gets to biting give him a stuffy to chew on and rough house with instead. Especially if/when he is teething, he will definitely want something to chew on, and it's better to have something acceptable than whatever he finds that fits in his mouth.

Thanks guys, I wasn't sure that if he was "Teething" whether or not to let him "Teethe", but I see now not to, he has plenty of toys but most are the plastic-bell ringing-chase round the room type, I think I'll stop off on my way home and get him a furry mouse or something

Thanks again

A big welcome to you and Crumbly. He's a real cutie.

I gave our kitties fat plastic straws when they were teething. We actually found a couple of their baby teeth and saved them. (I know, I'm a silly human.)

This is a truly wonderful site for information and for just plain meeting nice folks.

Enjoy.

What a beauty!

Thanks for the reception guys

It really means a lot, as I am 25 years old, and I have never been a "Cat Person" at all, I just suddenly, out of the blue decided to rescue a kitten (crumbly), and ever since I have had him (about 10 days at this post) he has truly enriched my life in an absoloutely unimaginable way that I never expected
, so to find somewhere to share my experiences/anxieties/questions etc with a community that I know have the same appreciation as I have found with my little baby
is a thing to be very thankful of, of which I am to you all.
