I don't want to alarm you but when my cat kept going in his litter tray we took him to the vets and was told he had gaterroenteritis. I would take your cat to the vets anyway, just to be on the safe side!!

I never heard of this diesease. What is that and how is it diagnosed? He had been to the vet just today. This cat has been to a vet basically every couple of weeks since I got him because of his health problems.
The tests never show anything, so he should be healthy as a horse, but he is not.

In the meantime, try a nice new litter box, and yes, the litter called Cat Attract is a good one...whatever he's eating best in wet food get that into him, soupy with extra water if he'll eat it that way. Has your vet prescribed anything besides a change of diet re the FIC?

I am so sorry your fellow isn't feeling well..it took Lyra over a year to get past this.
Antibiotic even though it's not a bacterial infection-go figure. Also cat is supposed to be drinking a lot of water. As for the breeder, I don't really want to give the cat back, as I got attached to him and my other cat likes him as well. It' s just that it's very expensive to keep brining him to the vet all the time.

He is not getting any better. I think he is getting worse. How do I know if he is blocked?

He will be in the box (or you will see him trying to pee) every few seconds - literally, and just strain (you'll hear no urine coming out, see no area of peed on litter in the box...or if he's in the sink, nothing will be there). Straining may include kicking back legs in the litter and then squatting to try and pee.

If you see this, if you really do not see much urine coming out, it is very, very serious, and requires immediate vet care...a true blockage can kill them in I believe it is 24 hours or less

Your cat may also cry out while trying to go.

The above is simply based on my experience when Tyler (unbeknownst to me) was beginnging to be completely blocked due to a free floating blood clot that was settling over the urethra within the bladder.

I hope this is NOT what is happening with your poor fellow

What had happened to Tyler after this? He had surgery before this, right? How much did it cost and does the vet know why it didn't work? Also, where is the bladder located on the cat? Is it on the right or on the left? I guess by feeling the bladder you can tell if the cat is blocked or not, but I don't know which side to feel.

Tyler had had surgery to remove stones in his bladder...he blocked right on day 14 - the day he was due for a post-op checkup. Between the surgery, and then the hospitalization when he was quite ill with the blockage, we spent around $3,500. The free floating hematoma and it's settling to block the bladder was a situation none of them had ever seen before..trust me, if it's strange, my cats will have it happen. In fact, based on an x-ray, they thought he had a rapid growing cancerous tumor (he had all the symptoms) and we thought we'd have to pts...we did an ultra-sound to be sure, and had the good news that it was a hematoma which was beginning to move. Fortunately, it absorbed, as they did not want to do another surgery on him.

I am lousy at palpating a bladder on a cat, but it's dead center, back between the rear legs...I'm sure a vet tech member can comment more specificially
and correct me if I am wrong.

We got lucky with Tyler, but it also took a bit of detective work to be sure we knew what was wrong...I hope you get an solid answer, so you can know what can be done for your fellow.

My cat doesn't have stones in the bladder, or at least they didn't see any on X-rays. It's the same story with this cat-his tests are negative, but he is a sickly animal. The vet told me to watch him to make sure he isn't blocked, so I am watching him but I can't tell if he is peeing or not. The room sure smells like he is peeing somewhere, though.

My Frantic had crystals so the vet suggested PurinaOne. He has been on it for 2 1/2 yrs with no problems since then. Its is a good food. Pipsqueek went on it at the same time as a preventative.

The darn cat is at it again! Peeing in the sink and on the bed! It's like he is better during the week but then having a relapse on weekends. What in the world could be causing it? Obviously antibiotic I give him doesn't help, but then why would it? He doesn't have a bacterial infection, he doesn't have crystals. He just has that FIC thing and it seems it won't go away. I don't know what else I could do.

Sorry if you tried this but have you taken him to a different vet? Mums dog went to three different vets and they all gave different treatments and had different theories. How is he now? Are you sure it's not behavioural?

Yes, I am absolutely sure it's not behavioral. Poor cat is sick.

No, I haven't yet tried another vet. I am not made out of money. So far all my vets vistits (to different vets even) consisted of me paying for various tests on this cat that never find anything. But if cat doesn't improve I might have to try another vet for him, although I am not optimistic it would be any better.

Feeling very frustrated with them not liking wet food, I added water to their dry food-and YEY! They did eat it up with water in it. I think that's what I am going to do from now on.

Well, you've made up your mind with 100% certainty that it is a medical problem -- so good luck!

I didn't make up my mind, I know he is sick. He has blood in urine, he can only pee small amounts. There is really no doubt he is sick.
But it wasn't enough for him to pee everywhere. Now, he pooped out of the litterbox too. I am at the end of my rope with this one. Anybody wants a fluffy persian cat that pees and poops everywhere? Come and get him!
