Ok..My cat Princess was always skinnier than my other cat Scotty and never ever ate as much as Scotty...Slowly I've notices shes been getting bigger and bigger....Yesterday when I was rubbing her stomach I felt her nipples which I havent felt before. I've come to conclusion she is pregnant... The Cats are mine..im 17 and mom doenst like cats but i've convinced her to let me have them...I've created a small corner where the sleep and eat.. When she delivers...Is it wrong to give away her kittens? or is there a period of time they stay with her momma? Also her and Scotty are brother and sister..Is there any chance she reproduced together?

Are they fixed? If not and they are indoor only cats, then odds are that she is. If her nipples are "pinked up" that's a really good clue.

I will defer that question to others..

Yes, at least 12 weeks

Again, if they are indoor only cats then yeah it's VERY likely, but, I gather from the question that they probably aren't indoor cats.

Now for the tough part.....

If your Male is not fixed... fix him, there are low cost spay and neuter clinics almost everywhere. If he goes out, think about how many kittens he may possibly have already fathered. Untill then keep him inside.

If you can't afforf the vet care that the kittens will need during the time they will be with you then, you have the option of having her spayed, which would terminate the pregnancy. It will be more expensive because she's preggers, but alot less that the proper vet care they will need.

In any case, until you know for sure she's pregnant, and/or spayed/neutered keep them indoors AND seperated.

BTW, You should take her to the vet, they are only ones who can tell you for sure with any degree of certainty.

Well first off... what if she has 7 or more kittens? That is possible. My cat just had 7 kittens 2 days ago. Will you keep all of them?
Also, some people start to give the kittens away when they are 8 weeks old. But I have heard that it is much better to wait till they are 12 weeks old. It is better for the kittens and the momma.
Next, I believe it is ok that she is only 1 year old. She should not have any problems b/c she is so young.
and YES she most probably got pregnant by her brother. Unless she goes outside and you saw other cats around her she might have gotten pregnant by another male cat. But girl cats CAN get pregnant by more than one male at the time. So this litter of kittens could be for more than one male cat if she goes outside.
But if you have a male cat and a female cat together in the same house and neither are "fixed" then most probably she got pregnant by her brother.

I learned the hard way ... and now I have 7 kittens that I love and adore... but I will ahve to pay for all of their first shots and get them all fixed BEFORE I find them all WONDERFUL (NOTHING LESS) homes to go to. It all adds up. It is a big responsiblity. I hope you are prepared for it.

If she's spayed while she's pregnant, that means the kittens would be killed. It's sad, I know, but if you aren't prepared to take care of the babies (that means getting them shots, spayed/neutered and finding them good homes, and feeding them in the meantime after they're weaned), it might be the best thing.

It's really important that you spay and neuter the two cats you have. They will be much happier, and you won't have a new litter of kittens every few months.

My rescue kitty presented us with 8 kittens who will be 6 weeks old tomorrow. Currently it is costing over $30 a week to feed them!

I know what you mean, I have three, 4-5 week old kittens, and they went though a $30 case of Hills P/D in 4 days.

Not to mention the work, the added mess. I fostered a litter of 5 kittens last year, and I was going through over 100lbs of litter a week...you can't use clumping litter with kittens. I was emptying the pans and disinfecting them every day to keep the smell down. The food was costing $40-$60 per week. Fortunately I was fostering for a rescue group, so I didn't have to pay for the vet care, as they all came with URI's!

It's a huge responsibility, and a huge expense. Kittens are great, but they are a ton of work!

I'm sorry I don't mean to sound harsh but if you keep a male and female cat together and they are not fixed what did you expect???? Of course they are going to mate, even if they are brother and sister, they do not think like humans and will mate with whoever is around.

Yeah, but mistakes happen. CJ was the same way. We scheduled Billy to be neutered, and apparently we were a couple of DAYS too late. CJ and Billy were littemates, too. They had three kittens, one didn't make it
, and another developed Vestibular Disease, which she is currently being medicated for and healing (P.S. YAY).

I can understand your position, and I won't blast you with complaints about why you didn't spay or neuter, but I can tell you that, depending on how far it goes back, imbreeding can be a serious thing. It can cause deformities. If you adopted your cats from outside, where a lot of cats roam, they are probably inbred a few generations back. So, if that's true, you might just want to prepare yourself for when the kittens come. Deformities, disease, and even death can come because of it. I don't want to sound harsh, I just wanna tell you the truth. I hope that after these kittens are raised, weaned, and out, that you will get momma spayed. In the mean time, I would get your male(s) neutered, because a female cat can go into heat a week after she has kittens, and become pregnant, and the cycle continues.

Good luck!

Cassie

Yes, I am fostering an extremely pregnant cat who has a 10 week old kitten. Her owner let her outside when the kitten was 3 weeks old.

My sis-in-law keeps unspayed and unneutered cats together, and due to inbreeding has had some deformities. I hate to say it, but just in case be prepared. But most likely you will have healthy kittens if she is not spayed and aborted right away.

You have learned a valuable lesson. Let us know how it works out!

If I were you, I would go to the local pet store and do some pricing...you may need a lot of things for these kittens that are not cheap!
Then, call your vet and ask how much visits cost and how often your mother and your kittens need to visit. You also need to prepare yourself for sickness. I wish you all the luck if you have these kittens, but I feel I must warn you that it may not be cheap!
Sick kittens cost a fortune! And what if she has 8 of them? I know first hand that one visit to the vet for special food (A/D, KMR, Nutrical) and antibiotics if they need it can cost well over $180. And in some cases, it requires many trips to the vet!!!
Then you also need to plan when these kittens start getting active...you need enrichment toys, litter boxes and extra litter, good kitten food, and safe cleaning agents. You will also need a much bigger space to house them.
I also want to tell you that if you cat is pregnant by its brother, that is not a good thing....your kittens may have genetic problems because of this. I know that my humane society wont even adopt out kittens born of incest because of its liabilities!
I just wanted to give you some things to think about. I recommend that you refer to some of the articles on this site and even some old posts from former kitten owners about health issues and vet costs.
You may even want to talk to your vet about what they feel is the best thing for your mommy kitty. Sometimes its best just to have her spayed!

In no way am I intending to be confrontational, but I just have to wonder why your Mom said this ... it does make me wonder a bit if people place human values on animals far too often. Cats do not have the same set of moral values that we do - it isn't an issue of them being "pro-life" or "pro-choice". WE are the ones with the issue here.

That now being said, since this decision seems to have already been reached, know that you can find assistance in this forum should you need it. But please ... once the kittens are born and your vet feels comfortable, don't wait to have this girl spayed. There is no need to wait to neuter your male, so do that now.
