My little guy, Woody, passed away two months ago. He had what started out as a urinary tract infection. I took him to the vet, who put Woody on medication for two weeks. We finished the meds and Woody seemed to be okay for a couple of days. Then, suddenly, he was having trouble urinating again and there was blood. It was on a Sunday, and the vet was closed. The nearest emergency vet was over 2 hours away. I gave Woody the meds that the vet had prescribed before, but they didn't work this time. The next morning I was on the way to the vet with Woody. I put him in the carrier and didn't even make it out the door and he was gone.
He was my baby, this was the most affectionate cat I've ever known. He was so young, almost 2 years old. I still miss him terribly.

i feel for you! i think it's harder, to some extent, when our younger ones die... we expect a lifespan of about 13 years, at the least. when they go so early, it's so unexpected, i feel it's even more heart-wrenching. when my first baby died, she had been sick for a month. she was also 15 years old. i was broken-hearted, but at least had been somewhat prepared. when Mouse went, she got sick & died within 2 weeks. i didn't have time to get ready - and she was only 7!
you are in my prayers...

What a tragedy for you! Woody has such soul in his eyes - I'm sure that there is an empty spot the size of Grand Canyon in your life! Please remind yourself that you did the best that you could for him; he knows that & he knows that you love him so much. As someone who has kidney/UT problems, I can tell you that the drive of 2hrs. to the emergency clinic would have been 2 hours of torture. I agree with you that the best decision for Woody was allowing him to remain at home in his last hours. For some reason, his issues were too great and he was released to a better place, where he can jump as high as any moth can fly. Laureen is right, when the younger ones go, it does seem to be harder. I lost my closest nephew when he was 18 and my brother when he was 47 - it's awful to say, but losing the nephew has been hardest for the family. I send you prayers & hugs for healing & comfort; I will light a candle to shine as a signal to Woody that the TCS family is here for you. May you find peace in all the kind words & vibes being sent your way. Susan

Woody was a beautiful boy and I am sure he was very loved for the short time he was here and will continue to be for even longer, and will be very much missed. My heart and thoughts go out to you. RIP Woody
