I need some advice here. Currrently I have one cat, she is 6 years old and very mellow. I with my fiance would like to get another kitten or two at this point. She located a very nice 5 week old calico medium hair and have decided to take her home, I have located a very nice 12 week old maine coon kitten unfortuently at the same time.

So the idea is to get both of them at the same time. Two kittens could play togeher and let my older cat have at least some alone time. We could care for the two kittens at the same time which is significantly easiar then getting one then another.

thing is I have always had outside cats, these three would have to be inside with us full time so how much space would three full size cats need to be comfortable. We have ~1300sqf and the cats would have there own room.

Sounds like fun. I don't think you have anything to worry about- their own room, LOL. Seems like you have plenty of space for three cats.

I have no clue on our square footage, but if we can deal with a 90 pound dog, and 6 cats in a two bedroom townhome, then I think your 3 cats will be just fine.

I think it will be easier on your older cat to get two. Dushka was pretty freaked out by Ellie, but then when Persil arrived the two younger ones play together and leave Dushka alone at least some of the time!

Three cats...two adult caretakers...1300 sq ft.

I think that sounds like a fairly optimum household. Looks like a very good situation and good luck with the new kittens!

Sounds like you should have plenty of space for three. I share a two-bedroom apartment (app. 1250 square feet) with three cats and have plenty of room.

My old townhome was only 1,000 square feet and I had FOUR cats living there very happily!!!

I'm in something twice that size now so naturally, I have more cats.

Something I read when I adopted my 4th, Hammie, was to create more VERTICAL space. Buy some floor-to-ceiling cat trees (like the spring-mounted kind), stuff they climb and get up on. Another vertical space idea are the window perches; either the hammock style where it's all soft & cushy and they just lay there, or the harder kind that acts as a 'shelf'. Windows are great places to create vertical space & more 'room' for cats, if you have enough ledge to install the cat perches.

I guess the most important thing is, make sure there's enough space for hiding, running, and litter boxes. Closet space is also another place for cats to hang out, I know some ppl don't like cats in their closets, but mine have free reign in there. The skitzy cats can hide if they want and the adventurous ones like to play in there!
