I know this isn't cat related but I would like some ideas please!
Ok, once a month at our work, we have food day...there isn't any specific theme..we just bring whatever we want..sometimes we have themes of certain kinds of food to bring, but it seems like I am either making brownies, or little smokies almost everytime....I don't need anything fancy, and if it includes alot of ingredients, please list them here too...I would like to make a main dish, but if any of you have a yummy different kind of dessert..please share it here!!! tia!!!!

I had some great meatballs at a party once, and was really surprised when that host told me they were frozen. He covered them with seasoned tomato sauce and simmered them in the crockpot overnight on low. There was not one left in the pot at the end of the party.

Movin' on up!
My potluck mainstay is baked beans. I do them in the crock pot and set it on "warm", when I get to work.

Brad made some little smokies with black currant (or grape)jelly and mustard in a crock pot and put it on low. I hate hot dogs but it smelled REALLYYYYYY good!
We took it to a family reunion and didn't take any home!

If you decide to try it, let me know how it goes over. It's made often in the south but I haven't heard of anyone else making it or even knowing what it is. I'm just curious. Most people who aren't from here won't even try it! I guess because of the name???

As a maindish or side dish:

BBQ Beef
Season a roast and cook it in a crock pot with water. Then remove it and shred the meat. (Keep the water it was cooked in.) Place meat back into pot and pour BBQ Sauce over it (I use honey or hickory flav. sauce.) Add some sugar - now I pour some of the broth it cooked in into the empty BBQ bottle and pour that into the dish as well. It cuts back on the thickness of the sauce.

Serve as sandwhiches or as a maindish with coleslaw, beans & a salad.

I have heard of this too and I am from the Great White North

People don't often make it at home but its sold in restaurants.

(I am going to New Orleans this year and am very worried about 1) my funny accent and 2) how to order food with my funny accent
..I am practicing
"I'll take me one of them poboys".

Good luck with the work potluck! I am going to try this mudpie recipe too!
Thanks!

When I take this cake to large family gatherings, I ALWAYS bring home an empty cake dish. It is easy to make, tastes ~wonderful~ and serves a larger number of people.

"Pig-Pickin' Cake"

1 Box Yellow Cake Mix
1 Medium Can Crushed Pineapple, very well-drained
1 Large Can Mandarin Oranges, very well-drained
1 Large Container Cool Whip, thawed

Prepare cake batter as directed on the box, adding the drained Mandarian Oranges. Be careful not to break up the oranges too much, you want them sort of chunky. Pour into sheet cake sized baking dish and bake as directed on box for a sheet cake. Cool THOROUGHLY and refrigerate overnight before frosting.

Mix together Cool Whip and drained Pineapple. Spread Cool Whip/Pineapple mixture over top of refrigerated sheet cake, cover well and secure before transporting.

Ok here's a quick crash course:
Say it with me.....
It's crawfish.....not crayfish
Naw'lins....not New Orleans
y'all is for one person, or a group

Now, if we put all of that together you get:

"Hey y'all! I'm goin' to Naw'lins to get one of dem crawfish poboys!"

Oh yeah, and if you hear any of the locals say,"I'm going to make the groceries or I'm going to save the laundry." It means they are going grocery shopping or to pick up their laundry.

You'll do fine......there are so many toursist from all over the world that come here all year round. Us southerners are very easy going and friendly. We always welcome new-comers!

Hope you have fun!!!!
