Greece for many has been very cruel to cats. They do not spay/neuter, and for population control they use rat poison! They are planning to be crueler than usual with the upcoming Olynpics, so please, spread the word, never travel to Greece, write to the tourist minister, and boycott all olympic sponsors!! Check this link:

Thank you very much, on behalf of all the sweet cats of Greece!

I used to stay at a motel in Dorval Quebec whose restaurant was run by a Greek couple...Their family used to come over every so often fron Greece. The "macho" way they treat their women was enough to sour any idea I ever had of visiting there. Wasn't real impressed with the food either.

Well, I must say the people do seem nice (to other people). But they have a village mentality when it comes to cats. Please boycott all olympic sponsors! And please read this link:

Thank you all!

I copied this thread into the SOS Forum - some folks only go there and do not visit the lounge. This is a worthy cause.

I traveled to Greece once, and all the stray cats I saw were very healthy. They were plump.

Okay, the Olympics thing confused me. I know the original Olympics were supposed to have been at the foot of Mt. Olympus (hence the name) in honor of the Greek gods most of us studied in English literature / mythology. Is it still owned in some way by the Greek government? How does that work, then? Since the games are held in different countries? I never really thought about that before.

Addendum: The piece of information I was missing is, that the 2004 Olympics will be in Greece.

I have found another great link-- this is FAZA, a wonderful organisation devoted to saving as many helpless critters as possible in Greece. In the 2001 Newsletter is more word on the planned poisoning of the strays for the Olympics in Athens. Please get involved!! Keep everyone away from spending tourist dollars in Greece!! Thank you!!
