I had one back in 1998, had no use for it, and haven't owned one since. Damn, I don't even answer my home phone, or "landline" much of the time.
Or my office phone.

But I'm not completely out of the loop... I do have a router for wireless access for my laptop.

How about you? What's your take on the latest technological gadgets?

I have one for safetly only, I don't use it very often. I still have my home phone. I really don't care for them and seeing them in use all over annoys me, like in restaurants or
grocery stores! My gosh doe everyone need their hand held that much? I have heard people in grocery stores talking about what kind of pasta to get, just pick one! And the driving and talking is so bad, and dangerous, I had yet another close call with someone on a cell. I mimed " no talk and drive" to this woman and she just starred at me.

When I was younger the cell phone was like a life line for me, but now I mean I'm at work all day and then at home, it doesn't really matter. I still have one for emergencies or for some off the wall thing, but I only use it maybe a couple minutes a week. And really I don't even talk a tenth as much as I did when I was young. In my free time I like to sleep.

I kid my husband on how he got along for so many years without a cell phone - and now it is a major "catastrophe" if he leaves the house to go to the store without it. Not that he uses it all the time... but he wants it just in case...

I don't have a landline so I use my cell phone for everything (not that I use it that much). Makes my house much quieter.

Well, it's kinda misleading, I voted that "I can't stand the idiots ..." which I can't. That's the closest I come to road rage! But I do have one and I do carry it, but it's rare that I ever use it. I mainly have it because I have a 30 year old pick-up truck and ya just never know

Yes, I realize NOW I should have added to option 2, "work/other purposes".

Its know illegal over here to use a cell (or mobile as we call them!) whilst driving, there's a £50? fixed fine if you're caught. Too right too!

I don't use mine that much.... strange for a teenage girl!

Well, in Puerto Rico we don't have a law in place against cell phones while driving. However, in some parts of North America they do have.

The first option is PERFECT for me
I can't be without it and I am on it constantly

BUT I DO NOT use it while driving. If I feel I have to answer it I pull over or use the speaker phone. And when in restaurants it is on vibrate and I only answer if its a call I have been waiting for!

I really don't like cell phones. I have one, but I got it for my wife in case of an emergency. We hardly ever use it, only once in a great while. But, when I am not home, I do not want people to call me and I don't want to be on the phone. I, like Marge, can not stand seeing them everywhere you go, especially when people are using them in the car while driving!! If you are driving, stay off the phone. Driving while on the cell phone is as bad as driving while drunk...it's that bad. I do like new electronic gadgets, but cell phones with cameras and text messaging is just too much. I mean, why does everyone feel they need to stay in touch with people when they are not home? It really is good for you to be alone once in a while. I have an answering machine, people can call me at home and leave a message if it is that important. I will call back when I get home. I don't know, maybe it's just me. But I don't understand this cell phone craze. It is after all, just a telephone.

I'm being forced to get one for exactly one week per year. Maybe 2 weeks in the future. When I go to Ohio and Nationals, there are no longer any pay phones on base. So if you don't have a cell, you can't call home (unless you mooch on someone else's cell phone, which I really don't want to do!). So I guess I'll get one of those pay-as-you-go type phones and if I don't want it, I can always re-activate it just for that one week of the year.

And yes, I HATE those people who just cannot be anywhere without mindlessly chatting on their stupid cell phones, and driving and talking just don't mix!

I have a cell phone. I got it years ago when Dad was still at home, and I wanted him to be able to reach me -- especially if he was under the weather, and I needed not so much to be there, but to be available. About a year after we got that one, we got a deal on a second one, so Rob got one too.

Very few people have our cell numbers, and now we use them mostly to keep each other informed about travel/arrival times/delays, so they aren't on a lot of the time. Still, having had more than one road emergency, I wouldn't want to be without it.

And as for driving and talking, nothing makes me angrier on the road than to see someone making a sloppy left turn, because one hand is busy holding the #$%^&#&#&# phone to his ear -- not to mention just not paying attention to what's happening on the road.

I experienced this too. The lady wanted to know what type of chicken to get so she called someone on her cell phone. I don't always have a complete list when I get groceries, but really...have some courtesy or just make a decision on your own!!

I originally got my cell phone because it was cheaper than the rates with my local phone company for local long-distance.

I have one that I could live without, but I don't have a landline... and my husband and I work in the same building so we never have to call each other (we're always together) but if that changed we'd suddenly need them a lot.

I, too, cannot stand people who drive under the influence of cell phone. Every time we're behind someone who is driving stupid we almost always see that they're on the phone when we pass them. It is VERY dangerous and it's like they just don't get it... they must not think it affects their driving but it sure does, very badly I might add.

One time I counted them on our way home from work, and in our 15 mile drive I caught more than 50 people on the phone while operating a moving vehicle... there were plenty more I didn't see I'm sure. That's over 50 dangerous drivers we were sharing the road with... it makes me afraid to drive anywhere any more!
