Has anyone ever responded to any of the pop up ads? I had one pop up on this site the other day and It said that if I would sign up for one thing on it's list that I would get a free Dyson vacuum cleaner.

Here is what the ad said.

" Congratulations! To qualify for your FREE* Dyson Upright Vacuum, start by fully completing any 1 of the top offers listed below on this page!

Once you fully complete the offer eligibility requirements as outlined in the terms and conditions, we will ship the Dyson Upright Vacuum to you for FREE! Prior to us shipping the Dyson Upright Vacuum, you will have the opportunity to re-confirm your shipping address. "

This is a con, right? I can not believe just for signing up for something that they would give a person a vacuum worth over $400.00. I was just wondering if any one knows what the catch is. So that is my dumb question of the day. Whats the catch?

I know that the site mods here are very picky about their advertising companies, so I seriously doubt that this is a blatent scam, however do read the fine print closely as many of these type offers have strings attached.

Sometimes you can get really really good deals out of them though.

Remember the old adages: "If it sounds too good, to be true, IT IS" and "There ain't no such thing, as a free lunch".

"TANSTAAFL" --- there's actually a cattery registered by that name
which I thought was pretty cute. I use Firefox with the pop-ups turned off, and the Adblock plug-in --- I don't see the ads
.

The cattery owners must be sci-fi fans. That acronym comes from "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress".

Back OT, though - I've been told that clicking some pop-ups can install spyware and possibly viruses on your computer. I wouldn't click ANY of them. Since I installed Service Pack 2, I haven't had any.

That might be the catch right there. They will SHIP the vacuum for free......then probably send you a bill for the vacuum itself. In other words, free shipping.
That's my guess. I'd just stay away from anything that that is too good to be true.

I would never try to get the "free" offer I am too chicken to take a chance. I was just trying to figure out the catch!
