The kittens are a week old today, I read that momma can go into heat again right after giving birth. Will she act the same as before rubbing on things and rolling on the floor?

She isn't doing any of those things, but yesterday our male was very interested in smelling her so we separated them (he's getting fixed next week) she was swatting him away but I don't want more kittens.

As far as I know cats can get pregnant practically imediatly after pregnacy. We had a cat come in with four 1-2 day old babies, two months later we were surprised with another litter of 4 from the same female.. so she ahd to have gotten pregnant within the two days she was still a stray, 1-2 days after giving birth.

While it ~is~ true that queens do experience another estrus cycle shortly after they deliver, what is more than likely happening with your male is that your Momma cat smells like she is in heat even though she may not actually be just yet. Having kittens mimics the scent and males are confused by it.

I have noticed that with my own cats, the queens do not go immediately into heat, in fact, it is several months before they do again. But this is not the case in each and every cat, so it is best to keep your male and your female securely separated until one or both are altered.
