I am not in a good space right now.
I learned today that Freddie's mama was taken by a coyote last night and is gone. Freddie was the kitten from across the street in the hippie house, who was a present to Sasha after SiSi disappeared. Freddie was the light of our lives and brought Sasha out of depression but was FeLV and died of leukemia 11/9/03 RIP.

Freddie's mama was Sasha's best friend. She is also Measie's sister and Measie has been sitting in their driveway all day and all evening waiting for her to come home......my heart is breaking.

This will probably go to the blue room, but I am very, very sad. I feel so guilty that we moved out here only to cause so much pain and loss for Sasha. I wanted nothing but the best for him. Nature can be so cruel. I feel like taking the shotgun and walking the fields tonight, but what good will that do?
I will tell Sasha when he is in my arms tonight in bed. I just brought him in, it's dusk.

How very sad. The big wild world can be a scary place. I'm sorry the coyotes got Freddie's Momma. Condolences to you and your neighbor, and the kitties left behind!

Oh Eddie, I'm so sorry to hear that. Gosh, nature can be so cruel, can't it?

I'll light a candle for this poor kitty to help guide her to the Bridge, where she will be reunited with sweet Freddie.

And yes, I'll move this to Crossing the Bridge in honor of this precious soul.

Thanks, Heidi. Sorry I was so brief on PM.

I am so sorry to hear about Freddie's momma. My thought are with you and yours. This is why I always hope my babies do not get outside, it is such a cruel world with other animals and automobiles.

Thank you, everyone, really means a lot to me.
I just wanted to do her justice. I told Sasha and he spend the night curled in a ball underneath the futon in "his room", a very different place for him. He usually sleeps with me and Saba or cuddles with his wool blankets on top of the futon, if he wants to be in his own room. I think he knows. Measie was noplace to be seen today, but it poured ALL day. I think the sky is crying.
so thank you. Sasha went outside just a bit today but did not go across the street to their house at all. He's somewhat quiet and looks at me with dark, still eyes.

My friends mom came up to help her move out of the dorms after finals and brought bad news with her. Liz's cat of 6 years (alfred, alfie for short) had been torn apart by coyotes IN HER FRONT YARD. Her mom and brother sat there and watched it happen, but there was nothing they could do, by the time her dad got the shotgun loaded alfie was torn literally to pieces and the coyotes were gone. Her mom said that she still has trouble sleeping cause she can hear poor alfies screams of pain and fear. ITs a good thing her mom waited until after finals, poor liz is devestated. ....

So sasha, nature can be so cruel. I am so scared that the same thing will happen to tiggy at my parents house. I hope you feel better, as well as your baby. give hugs and kisses from me and cj!

Such a tragedy!!! Once coyotes take a cat, they often return for more. Do you have a human male who would be willing to "mark territory"? I live in the hills and coyotes are notorious here for predation on everything from chickens to small dogs (owls are also a threat and we have mountain lions as well). So far that technique has worked for me (over 2 years to date). In fact, a small fox has taken residence in my yard , so I guess it's a safe place. Your poor heart has taken such a beating, losing poor little Freddie, and now mama; not to mention having to help Sasha with this loss. You will be in my thoughts & prayers during these sad days.

We do have 22 dogs on the street and 3 new puppies this year, including our own, so the area right now is fairly protected during the daytime. He is no longer outside at night and the problem was that Freddie's mama was allowed to go out all night if she wished....

Last night the 18th, was the year marker from when Sasha was mauled by his coyote in our pumpkin patch. So I brought him in a little early and he seemed to understand. I went outside and YELLED as LOUD as I could: All you coyotes you are not getting my boy here or any other! And fired off the shotgun.
I feel better now.

Good for you!

I'm sorry, I just read about Freddies' mamma. I don't come on this forum often, I find myself thinking about the poor babies too much.

You all keep safe, I know you and Sasha will comfort each other.
