Asheville PIC Tour (Biltmore, horses, etc!)

All right, so some of you asked for some details and pics from my recent trip to Asheville, NC and I FINALLY am able to deliver! I've included some of my favorite pics in this thread, with links to the rest of that particular photo album directly underneath the pics. So, if you want to see more of anything, there's a bunch more if you just follow the links! We got some really GREAT pics!! Oh, and Kellye, I've highlighted the places we ate at so they'll be easier to find. Let me know which ones you've been to yourself!

Brendan and I were so happy to arrive in Asheville and very eager to check out the bed and breakfast we'd be staying in! We stayed in a place called A Bed of Roses and it was AMAZING! The innkeepers were great and the place itself was beautiful!!! Each morning we had delicious 2-course gourmet breakfasts (sometimes including baked grapefruits, omlets, peach crisp, spiced eggs, belgian waffles, and a whole bunch more) complete with fresh squeezed juice and hot tea. Our room was outfitted for a nice romantic stay including a gift certificate to a local restaurant for $65 and two tickets to the Biltmore Estate!!!!!!! I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay!

More pics of the inside and out of the bed and breakfast!
That first evening we walked into downtown (only about 5 blocks away) and checked out the area. We decided to eat at a pizza place that Brendan had been to before when he used to go to a camp just outside of Asheville, The Mellow Mushroom, and it was totally delicious! I had mine with onions, roasted red peppers, and chicken!!

The day after we got there was our 3 year anniversary ( ) and so we decided it would be a great day to use our Biltmore tickets. Let me tell you...WOW! That place is INCREDIBLE! It truly takes your breath away when you first see it from the vista. Brendan got some beautiful pics on his camera, but you're not allowed to take any of the inside so regretfully we have none of those. This place is so spectacular and awe inspiring though, we felt content just having pics of the outside! We spent a whole day checking out the estate, grounds, and winery! I had a great time participating in a wine tasting !! Everything about that place was beautiful and even now thinking about it I can't begin to fathom the enormity of such a place. While there we ate at their bistro located next to the winery. Very good food!

More incredible pics of the Biltmore Estate and winery!!

As part of our trip to the Biltmore, we spent a good hour or two exploring their gardens and conservatory! We got so many beautiful shots of flowers that I felt the need to make a whole different album just for the many garden pics. If you love flowers, you'll love looking through this album. There were truly some beautiful plants out there, not to mention a very good pic of a robin taken by Brendan.

Some really spectacular shots at the Biltmore gardens and conservatory!

That night we used our gift certificate for a delicious anniversary meal at the La Caterina Trottoria (not sure how that last word is spelled).

The following day we headed out to Fordbrook Stables where we went horseback riding wayyyyyy up a mountainside. I've ridden horses many times but never with a view like this! It was spectacular! What an amazing feeling to be so far up a mountain on a horse, looking out at a distant view of downtown Asheville. Another great view we had was a distant view of the Biltmore. It was incredible! It was also a lot of fun because it was Brendan's first time on a horse. He was so cute and did a fantastic job of it. It was incredibly relaxing and invigorating at the same time. It smelled amazing way up there.

Some nice pics of the view and more shots of the horses!

The rest of the afternoon/evening was spent wandering downtown doing some shopping and just really relaxing. Brendan bought me the funkiest lamp while we were there at a store called L.O.F.T. (Lost Objects Found Treasures) that I just adore! I wish I had a pic of that as well as it's kind of hard to describe. I'll just settle on describing it as a definite conversation starter though! Just the kind of random piece I like to include in a living room! For lunch that day we ate a great place called the Early Girl Eatery that had some of the best homemade lemonade I've had in a while! We wandered for quite a while, checking out every store we felt like, listening to some hippies play their fiddles on the street corner, and pretty much just checking out the vast number of hippies all over the place!!! I've never before seen so many hippies in such a short period of time! It was really interesting. Later on that night we decided to walk on up Montford and enjoy a yummy ice cream from Sweet Heaven (I think is what it was called).

We really had a great time all together and couldn't have asked for a better little getaway! I adored Asheville and can now see why Brendan has always been so enamored of it. It's a beautiful place to just relax and explore. I hope I didn't bore anyone too much. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful pics, Kat!!!!! That place looks amazing!!

You guys make a cute couple, too ! Thanks for sharing, I was dying to see them!! I'll have to show them to Shy and show him why we need to go! I love the pic of you guys with the mountains in the background. Almost reminds me of home

YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! YAY! Thank you for posting those pics Kath! Ashville is gorgeous and it looks like you and Brendan had a blast! You two really are a very cute couple (and I've figured out who Brendan looks like- kind of an Aaron Carter/Jesse McCartney mix).
The B&B y'all went to looks so cute! Baked grapefruit- they really go all out for y'all!! It's amazing you ever wanted to come home. Looks like you two really got to enjoy your anniversary Hmmm....me and Bradley's 2-year anniversary is in just a couple of months....you're giving me some idears now
Congrats on 3 years by the way!

Thanks Kelly, Chris, and Amy! I'm glad you all like the pics! Kelly, I really like the one of Brendan and I with the mountains in the background as well. We don't have many of those to take pics next to here in Florida! Definitely get your boyfriends to go there with you Amy and Kelly! They will not regret it. And if you do ever consider going to Asheville seriously, check out A Bed of Roses (http://www.abedofroses.com , we were in the Carolyn Gray room). It comes highly recommended from me to you!

That's REALLY funny that you think Brendan looks a bit like Aaron Carter, Amy, since my mom has been saying NICK Carter since we first started dating (and me being a former Backstreet Boys teenybopper just swooned )! The only difference is, Brendan doesn't have the best singing voice and doesn't walk around wearing matching clothes with his buddies!!

Great pics Kath, Ashville is beautiful. Looks like you, and Brendan had a great time. I love the pics from the Biltmore Estate and winery!

Yay!!!!!!!!! I love love love Mellow Mushroom, just to look at - I love their fence!!!!! I know La Caterina Trattoria - never eaten there but I do have a coupon for it, just never bothered to go

That flower pic is sooo pretty - reminds us to go and use up our free tickets to Biltmore - a friend of ours father worked there and they gave him a life time supply of free tickets which he gives us! It sucks that you cant take pictures inside aye??? I love the food at the bistro also, even though its a little pricey!

The last time we went to Biltmore was in fall of 99 and it was beautiful - the colours were amazing, I loved it!

Thank you for the photos, they are great and you two make a stunning couple!

I love Asheville! Mellow Mushroom is the best!

My family went to Biltmore when I was about 10, and my younger sister, the princess of the family, was about 8. After we took the tour and were walking back to the car my sister, dead serious, says "so, how do I get to live there?"
A year later when we went to London for a vacation she was convinced she was going to meet Prince William so that they could fall in love, have a long-distance courtship and marry years later! LOL!
She's now engaged to a normal non-royalty, but great guy--I hope he's prepared! Lol!

Thanks everyone! I'm glad you all liked the pics! And thanks for saying Brendan and I make a cute couple, that of course makes me feel really good.

Oh my gosh Kellye that's awesome that you have so many free tickets to the Biltmore!! I can't believe it's been so long since you've gone though. You have to get moving and get there! I thought of all the places you'd probably know Mellow Mushroom best. We actually have some in Florida, but Brendan and I have never been and I'm not sure that we will. He'd probably like to keep it just an Asheville thing since camp was so special to him and that's when he first tried it.

Jenn the B&B was just amazing. I could go on and on about that place and the wonderful service from the innkeeper. She was just great!! The next time Brendan and I go back we'll definitely be staying there again, just perhaps trying a new room!

OllyExtra your sister sounds like quite the character! Brendan and I were messing around saying things like, "So ok, which bedroom do you think should be ours and which ones should be for our family and friends?" but of course we weren't serious. I hope her soon-to-be husband is ready to treat her like royalty!

That Bed and Breakfast is beautiful! I will definitely keep that in mind when Nate and I are able to go there together. I'm going to Asheville in a couple weeks and your post has made me even more excited. I haven't been to the Biltmore since I was 11 and I really want to see it again with adult eyes. It is so gorgeous in Asheville. I'm glad you two had a great time. You make an adorable couple!

Nice!! Just pick a random day and call it your anniversary! Brendan and I decided 3 years ago that our anniversary was the first day we made out! And the reason I could remember that day was because it was the day after the first Spiderman movie was released, so it HAD to be May 4th!

Thank you so much Ryan! We really did have an amazing time! It's nice to be in a place so completely different from where you're from, no matter how much you love your own area. And as always, I love hearing that Brendan and I make a great couple.
