Sparky, the "famous" AOL Pet-of-the-Day cat, and best bud for the past 17 years, was called back home by God today.
He had been suffering from kidney failure, a heart murmur and thyroid problems. He had lost alot of weight, and had become much weaker recently.
I firmly believe that he was sent to me, by God, to keep an eye on me, and to help me through some bad times, and to help me celebrate the good times.
He was selected, in the early 1990s, as America Online's "Pet of the Day". The picture, in typical Sparky style, was one of him with his tongue stuck out.
He was a popular, and well-liked cat in the neighborhood. He liked to stroll around the unit block with me, on nice days.
Sparky was a caring cat. In all his years, I think he may have hissed or spit less than 10 times (mostly at the vet!)He loved to "talk", had a great sense of humor, and would even hold my hand, when it was time to go to sleep. Up until just recently, he still loved to play.
I have two beautiful "memorials" of him - two cross-stitch patterns I stitched of him. On the backs of them, today, I wrote his name and the dates he spent on this earth taking care of me.
At the end, I sang to him all the songs I had ever sung to him: "You Are So Beautiful" (Joe Cocker), "I Will" (the Beatles), and a version of "Yankee Doodle Dandy", which I called "Sparky Doodle Dandy". Before I took him for his last ride, we went for one last walk. His decision was to just walk half-way up the sidewalk, then come home.
He will always live in my heart, but it will take time for me to not miss his presence.
BTW, if you would like to see his pictures, please go to my Picture Trail website, http://www.picturetrail.com/pge911 and go the People and Pets Portraits album.
