What is so fascinating is that Tutankhamen lived 3,300 years ago! Ancient Egypt was just an amazing civilization.

I have been following this story for a few months now. I went to Egypt in January and there was some hype then about the theories surrounding the boy kings death etc. I went into his tomb as well, but it wasn't really that special as all the artifacts have been moved from the Valley of the Kings to the Cairo museum. Plus, raiders have damaged the pictures on the tomb walls etc. There is a documentary on channel 5 tonight (UK) all about these new theories if anyone is interested

I had never really been that interested in Egyptology before but then mum & dad kept on going to Egypt on hols, they did a pyramid trip and a couple of Nile cruises. So when they asked me to go with them on another cruise in January I didn't really jump at the chance as it is not something that I was bothered about (I was also really worried about getting "gippy tummy!"
)

Well... I eat my words! It is the most amazing place and really makes you stand back and say, "how the f**k did they do that?" The ancient Egyptions were very, very clever ppl!

Interesting. A few years ago, they reconstructed Jesus Christ's face, and he looked so different than what people are led to believe. Instead of a thin white man with a beard, he was a black man with googly eyes (and that he staggered when he walked, apparantly). They obviously didn't have a skull to use, but they used knowledge on what Jesus's life was like. I wish I could find that picture, but it sure is hard to find.

Interesting article and pictures. It looks like he would have been quite healthy. Being 5'6" was probably a tall height back then too.

I agree that the profile leaves much to be desired..
From the front, something about his mouth reminds me of Barbara Streisand. No bash intended, just an observation..

This story was covered on the NBC nightly news...and they commented on the resemblance to Barbara Streisand

Interesting story! Yeah, the reconstruction DOES look like Barbara Streisand. lol
I love how all the theories about his death have finally been tested out and they've figured out what really happened to him. Gangrene is much less glamourous that murder, but it's cool that they were able to find a cause of death after 3,300 years!!
This part of the article is really cool:
Hawass is leading a five-year project to scan all of Egypt's known mummies -- including royal mummies now exhibited at the Cairo Museum. Eventually, each mummy will be displayed alongside CT images and a facial reconstruction.
How neat is that???

Makes sense. He was born 2000 years ago in the Middle East and was a carpenter; why would he have been a scrawny, pale European?
