Isis my Tradtional Siamese has started to do something new. In the last month or so Isis has been drinking her water from her paw. She dips her paw in the waterdish and then licks the water off it. I always though she had a slight depth perception since if she has to jump over something she tends to clear it by a good 6 inches. I keep trying to find out more on Siamese cats but most of it is the same thing just general information on the breed. Can any of you Siamese breeders/owners tell me more?

Cats often "test" their water - some sort of instinctive thing or taught by mom. My Siamese Seal Point does it too but I know it is not a Siamese thing.

Oliver does this with water from the faucet, but water from his water dish he just drinks normally. Who knows?

I think that is one of the most precious things I have ever heard...give him a good scritch from me.

*smile* Not to hijack the thread ... but I have never seen two cats bond the way my two have. Tonka is most considerate of his queen and is extremely gentle with her. As I said, in all my years of being owned by cats, I have never seen two bond the way these two have.

Daisy does this too, but she is not Siamese (although she could have Siamese is her background somewhere - she is of mixed ancestry!)

More proof that cats are better than men to have around!

I don't think it is just a Siamese thing--my husband and I "cat-sat" his sister's cat for two years--a large, sweet orange tabby with no Siamese anywhere in her background. She always insisted on drinking flowing water from the tap (she even refused fountains!).
Whenever we went to the bathroom, she would wait until we were washing our hands/brushing teeth and put her paw on the tap. We would turn it on very low and she would put her paw under to catch water and lick it. Her paws were so incredibly clean because she washed them everyday! It was sweet, but also a little worrying because this was the ONLY way she would drink--and only if we were with her, leaving the tap on low all day didn't cut it. So we would have to stand there with her for 10 minutes when we got home to make sure she was hydrated.
The vet said that he had never heard of cats drinking like that, but its great to read that other kitties do it!!

Well, my kitten, Snuggles, she will drink from ANYWHERE, even off of the floor! But when she gets into her water bowl, she will flex her claws, and tentatively scoop some water and lick her paw. I am only concerned when she loses her balance and falls in LOL! Snuggles also shares her food with Cuddles (noticing a pattern in the names?) but cuddles usually bites her paw along with the food. (Cuddles is not overly friendly to the pesky snuggles!)

My Snoopy used to eat with his paw. He's scoop up his food with his Paw like it was a spoon, and then feed himself that way. He also drank water that way as well.

That's not a siamese thing, that's just a cat thing. She's enjoying her water, lol. Playing and drinking at the same time. I do know one thing about siamese cats, they're extremely smart!
