Our mama kitty has a swollen cheek...

The kitties were born on May 1st and everything has gone very well...

We noticed she looked like she has swollen cheeks... Upon closer observation we noticed a lump... Its right behind her jawbone... (gland perhaps)...

She has been feeding the kitties fine... She is eating, although, I noticed some throw-up on the floor in the bathroom... (I wasnt for sure at the time if it was her or one of my other 2 cats)...

Is this something anyone has seen in a mama who has just had kitties..

EXTREMELY WORRIED!!!

If I have to take her to the vet, do I take her kitties with her???? I am worried because it is so cold outside and they are so young and vulnerable... (9 days old)

HELP! quick!

I understand your worries. I highly recommend calling your vet's office; they shouldn't mind. If you do leave them home, you could put them on a heating pad on low coverred with a few layers of towel (the heating pad, not the kittens). Be sure to set it up so that they have room to crawl off it.

I'd definitely call the vet's office, though.

I called at 8am sharp... She has an appointment today at 4pm... They told me to bring the kitties to avoid distress from them AND mama... I will just put them all in a box with lots of blankets and cover the top... Their eyes are just opening so I want to avoid bright light...

She is eating right now... I think that is a good sign, but I cant help feeling overwhelmingly worried...

It is a hard lump under her ear, kind of... Not really neck, not really cheek... She is abit more 'down' than usual... but she's purring...

Please send loving energy our way...

Sending it.

It could be an underlying condition that's popping up now. Our cats have feline herpes (which is basically like a constant cold) that's dormant most of the time. But now that Pepsi has given birth, hers has cropped up again. It's an immune system thing.

Please try not to worry too much. I know it's hard.

Well, apparently its an abscess... so the vet thinks...

I feel very upset at her having to have anti-biotics(amoxicillan) while she's feeding her babies...

It was that or put her under anesthesia and lance it... The vet said that would be worse for the kitties, her being away..

ughhhhhhhhhh

She had a fever of 104...
I hope this treatment works...

We've had 2 cats get those. They couldn't even swallow, and one got laryngitis. (it was somewhat cute, actually, little mouth open and no meow)

In my experience, the Amoxicillin works very well!

Just wanted to give you all an update... Boo's abscess has reduced in size by half... I hope it continues to do so... She IS seeming to feel abit better... Running, eating alot, peppier so to speak...

The kittens seem great... content...We put them on the bed for the first time today... They were cute, but Boo was VERY uneasy about it... We just had them out for about 5 minutes... Boo let us know without a doubt when it was time to put them back... She would jump from them bed to the closet, like 3 times until we put them in there... Then she started purring and feeding them.... awww, so cute! We dont hold the kitties yet, but they are familiar with us... We lay in the closet abit and they always come to us 1 at a time...

anyways, just wanted to let ya'll know how it was going...

Thats good thats shes doing better

Now that I think about it the smae thing happened to a cat from the rescue group I used to volunteer for.. a momma cat got an abcess right on her Jaw line... I thought it was from the kittens chewing on her face, as they were 7 weeks old.. they had their teeth.
