My Mashie girl was spayed last Monday at the local Humane Society and came home the next morning. After the normal couple days of being quiet and not really wanting to eat to play, she bounced back wonderfully and is back to her old self--MINUS her previous "mean streak".

She doesn't seem to be having any noticeable pain now. Plays and jumps fairly well--except for the occassional "stumble" when jumping up on things (which she never had a problem with before).

To get to my question... I've been noticing that her belly around and under the incision is lumpy. As in there seems to be soft masses under the skin/tissue. It's not hot or imflamed. The stitches seem to be healing very cleanly, she doesn't have a fever that I've noticed, and the area doesn't seem to be tender when I gently touch.

Is this normal or should I call the vet? Since she was spayed at the shelter, I don't know if their vet would be available to answer my questions, and I can't really afford a visit to my normal family vet at this time.

Thanks in advance!!

Are the stiches inside, or out? I know one cat that was spayed and the sutures were inside, and I could feel lumps around the incision.. but when they disolved it went away.

The stitches are inside--but the lumps are much larger than what I would think for stitches... One of the lumps--the one on one side of the incision--is...well...for lack of a better size comparison, mouse sized. LOL. The other two I have noticed are about half that size. One under the incision area and one a little above it. I'd palpatate them better, but I'm afraid of hurting her in case it's tender.

It's actually pretty common while it's healing to feel some lumps at the incision site. If there's no sign of redness, swelling, or opening up, it should be just fine.

That's a relief!

I was hoping it was something normal, but I'm SUCH a worrywart. Thanks for the reassurance.
