Missy gave birth yesterday, today I see that around her pink nose it is red, it's not runny like blood, it's just like a line around the sides of her nose. Any ideas what this is?

Also she is a first time mom and doesn't seem to know how to pick up the cats with her mouth, will this come with time?

Thank you

How old is this cat? Sometimes the kittens (under a year of age) that have kittens do not have the natural instinct on how to be good moms. It does kick in after awhile. If the kittens are nursing and she is washing then down after they eat, licking their bums etc it should be okay. They usually only carry them if they are in danger- or if you are moving them and they want them moved back. Keep them where she had them as long as it is inside and the kittens are warm and in a room with relatively little traffic.

She is 1 year, 3 days old. The babies are all feeding well, and she does lick them after.

She is eating a lot also, should I put out food constantly?

Any clues on the redness around the nose?

No clues to the redness on the nose, but feed her small amounts of food about 5-6 times a day and feed her kitten chow IAMS because she is going to need her strength and the kittens will zap her strength with nursing-

Regarding the red lines on the nose ... um ... kitten poop is a sort of orangish-reddish color - Momma does lick little bottoms to stimulate the babies to poop. Could it be that, perhaps????

Thank you both, I feel so silly. The red on her nose is from when she was cleaning the blood of herself. Being a white cat, the blood really stands out.
She is not bleeding now,, but has a little staining on her fur still. I clean her a little at a time, when she lets me.
