I was reasearching the grapefruit seed extract idea and came across this site and article:

http://www.wellvet.com/grapefruitseedextracts.html

All the sites that gave praises about the extract were from places SELLING it. Now, the stuff sounds great according to some and I was looking to add it to our house...but now I am not so sure.

Can anyone lead us to sites that give actual testing info, etc that are NOT selling the product?

And if you do use it , have had wonderful results, and have found one that does not contain the tryclosan, preservatives, etc..where did you find it, what's the brand and how much?

thank you!

I absolutely swear by GSE. The kind I buy is from NutriBiotic. It has cleared up awful sore throats, killed fungus between toes, helped sores to heal faster, and many other things. I gargle with it the minute I get even a teeny tiny sore throat, and usually it causes it to go away and not develop into a cold. I also took GSE with me to Mexico where I used it a few drops at a time in boiled water to make a wash for vegetables. I lived in Mexico for 6 months and didn't use up the bottle I took with me which only cost $10 at my local natural foods store. I think it's great stuff! (I would, however, NEVER use it on a cat).

Also, I think jennyranson had it work on her kits?

I know, I have heard a lot of people use it too. My questioning comes from what the article said, that all the products that found antibacterial properties were preserved with triclosan that kills bacteria....I could not find ANY info on the net providing accurate data from vets or non interest scientific studies showing the grapefruit seed did in fact have these strong properties....only supporting infrom was from sites selling it. I am all for it if it truly has the properties...I just dug a few pages dep and could not find anything to support the claims...or find it with out the triclosan. I know I could PM Hissy, but since this is a topic everyone can benefit from, I figured I would post it here.

I am sure at some point she will see it..so I can wat.

Is yours preserved with the triclosan? Because the triclosan will do the same thing. This is what they use in the TOTAL bacteria killing toothpaste.

i used it on mine when they had a URI, just two drops daily in their food. Mine is based on glycerine, no tryclisan. I only used it for four days and the infection was clear - though whether it was the GSE or hte antibiotic they were already on I do not know.
