I got a new perm today - last one was 10 months and one state away. I finally got the nerve to try a new place (Suzie: Mario's) and I got a different kind of perm - a spiral and with a brand of perm that they use there that I have never heard of. It, as almost all perm solutions do, smelled horrid! I don't like my hair blowed dry after a perm, so I had them put some gel and off I went. It is mostly dry now, but it SMELLS! Arggh! ... and I can't wash my hair for two days. I really love the way my hair looks with a perm, but I hate the first days after and I won't truly "like" the perm until about 2 weeks.

Plus my hair is getting long so the roots right now are not as curly as the rest - thinking I should have gotten a few inches taken off too. Ahh, we will see once I get to style it myself (and wash and condition it!)

What do you guys who have perms or straigtening use on your hair to moisturize?

Tracey.....give me a yell before you get another one and I'll yell at my stylist. There is something that they put on mine now after the final rinse that neutralizes that "perm" smell. Can't think of what it is, but it is great! I don't condition mine often, 'cause even with a perm it tends to be oily, but I fell in love with the Dove brand of conditioner that comes in a mousse, it was light, but not greasy.

Oh Tracey, I remember those perm smells. GAG! I haven't had a perm in a long time. I have very thin, fine hair, and it would practically burn it!

Hey Susie.....it depends on the perm and the person doing it! Mine used to burn a bit too, until this lady started doing them. She uses a really gentle perm, and watches it close to be sure that it has curled, but not burned...even if it means not leaving it on as long as reccommended.

I just got a perm and there is one by Wella that has chamomile in the neutralizer, it smells GOOD! Like you are in a field of flowers!
It is gentle but strong as far as perming, as it was able to get my almost-to-my-butt (and dyed red) hair to curl in really great waves!

Oooooooooooooh... I needs me some of THAT!

I've let my hair grow out the past couple years and now finally have something to play with hairstyle-wise. I've been wanting a spiral perm, but didn't know if there was anything out there to handle my thin in some places/thick in other, stubborn hair.

I now have hope!
