Hi everyone...ok, weird situation. My 2-yr-old, Winston, just started limping a little bit in his back right leg. Maybe he's ok, but here's why I'm worried...when we adopted our new cat two months ago, Winston got a bite on his paw, which the vet treated with antibiotics, and then he was fine. But now, six weeks after he healed, he's limping. I think it's the other leg anyway. Should I call the vet right away or is it safe to wait a couple of days? He's eating, drinking, using his litter box, but seems to be resting a little more than usual. Thanks...Sadie

A few days after we took Punky in the house, she started limping one morning. I took her to the vet to have him check her leg, and the vet just watched her walk and limp a bit, felt her leg, then told me to keep an eye on her and bring her in if it wasn't better in a day or two. He didn't think that anything was broken, but she might have sprained her leg. Punky stopped limping the next day. Better safe than sorry, but I could have waited another day to see if she improved.

Ok, thanks a lot. He seems totally normal besides the limp, so if it doesn't improve soon, I'll take him in. -Sadie

If he is loosing energy, there is a small chance its Calici virus, and that the new cat is a carrier. Calici is a URI that sometimes, due to joint pain, shows a limp. The *definitive* symptom are sores in the mouth, usually white-ish, and because they hurt often leads to a refusal to eat. He clearly isn't at that point yet, but his mouth should be watched. It very likely isn't calici but because of the presence of a new cat, and the limp, it should be considered.

I just read the "Common Ailments..." article and although the limp and the lethargy are the only definite symptoms, this boy is goin' to the vet. I can't take a chance cuz I love him too much! Argh...poor kittyboy. Thanks for the help...Sadie
