well shamrock has reached the age where it's time for him to get neutered. However, I need some advice what to do with him until I get him in. He has been spraying as of late and I just caught him doing it again. I have put him in the bathroom, with food, water, litterbox.......Is there anything else I can do before I get him to the vet? I am moving out of this apartment in a week or two, the place is carpeted and I really don't want his "scent" everywhere so I can get my security back. Help! If this keeps up I might start spraying too!

Exactly what age is Shamrock? The urine spray won't come out unless you catch it while it is still fresh and you can wash it away easily. If it is allowed to penetrate the surface upon which he sprayed, you have to strip the area (if it is a wall, then you have to sand, clean it thoroughly at least 3 times with an enzymatic cleaner, paint it with Kilz and then repaint it with regular wall paint).

Most breeders confine their males to a place where 1) the spray won't damage anything and 2) it is easy to clean.

My male is enclosed in a cat condo (very large cage) when my female comes into estrus because he sprays to attract her. I wrap it with incontinence pads so he cannot spray out of the sides or back.

Shamrock is just about a year old. He was a stray which I rescued when he was a kitten. there are no female cats in the house, only one other male, his "buddy", they get along just fine but my question was is isolation the only real solution until I get him fixed?

Will do. As a college student this cat is certainly preparing me for a child! He can be mischievious, adorable, a pain in the a**, but at the end of the day when he curls up next to my feet on the bed you can't help but give him a good pet and a kiss. Now I'm dealing with the "adolescent" period the future will sure be interesting!!! I'll let you know how he's doing.......

*smile* Exactly. Only children can *shudder* talk after a while. Just wait til you get a curious 3 year old whose response to ~everything~ is "Why?" - LOL You get real creative in your answers to those whys after a while. ROFL
