NEED ADVICE-about curing Ringworm on people

Okay, I still have ringworm, after two weeks of putting a prescribed cream on all the spots... the doc wants to try one more week, if they are not much better we will try a different route.

Luckily i still havent given it to my cat or hubby.

Can you really put clear nail polish on them to kill them/keep them from spreading?

And does the blacklight work with finding it on humans as well as finding it on areas around the house where it may have started.

Is there anything else that will help move this process along... i dont want to bring home my new kitty until i at least have this under control....

i shower at least once everyday, sometimes more
i clean clothes in hot water w/ bleach every day
bed sheets the same everyday or at least every other day
all doorknobs, and everything else that we touch, in the bathroom, and kitchen are all sprayed down with lysol(i read on it that it kills ringworm

) everytime i use anything

Am i missing somthing??

Please help! Any advice or experience would be very appreciated!

You might be going a bit overboard on the cleanliness thing, if what you listed is your usual routine. Some germs protect our bodies, trying to get rid of them all (which we can't) can harm us. We actually need germs to survive. I'm not saying that you got ringworm because you are so clean, but don't fight the "good" bacteria either.
Hope they can figure out how to treat your somewhat resistant case.

OH, NO WAY is that my usual routine

i hate cleaning... that is what i have been trying to do to keep my ringworm from spreading all over the house... i want my skin to stay covered and not deposit fungus all over the house...

i know about the bacteria in our body... i actually gave my husband that entire speech last night cuz i was explaining to him about taking an oral pill that was meant to kill off bacteria and fungus and it could kill off too much of my natural bacterias and end up making me sicker... long story...

i am taking a Microbiology class and we have been working with lots and lots of Unknown specimens for our final project... i really think that is where i got it from (plus ALL of the people in my group are Vet-Techs... it is possible that i got it from one of them)

I feel like it is not going away because i keep coming in contact with it... that is why i was asking about the blacklight... i could examine my school stuff, and other areas around the house, or anything...

It is more of a pain than anything, i just want it to go away.

Thank goodness, that's not your usual routine, you'd never leave the house!
There are two creams that are used for ringworm, lotrimin and fulvicin (sp). If the next cream does not work, I would suggest seeing a dermatolgist, if you are seeing just a reg doc now. It should be cultured, as other skin ailments sometimes mimic ringworm. I'm not sure about the blacklight thing, and I doubt nail polish would help at all.

the cream i am using now is spectazole/econazole nitrate... is that the same thing as either of the other two?

the doc said he has had really good results with that cream, that is why he wants to wait another week... even though it has been two already and they are taking over my body!

Not recommending this at all, but it worked for me.

A spray can, I believe it was Tolnaftate, or something like that, and the directions said not to get the spray head closer than 6", I believe, as the propellant was freon, and would cause freezer burn, or frostbite, or something, but after about a week of using the stuff and seeing no change, I gritted my teeth, placed the nozzle about a half inch from the offending spot, and gave it about a 3 second blast.

It hurt like blazes, and a big gob of frost appeared at the site, and a couple of days later the skin started flaking off, and after about a week or maybe a day or two less, the site was clean.

A footnote to the story, I covered the site with a band-aid after "icing it down," (or up), and about a month later I was in the Dr.'s office for something else, and he asked about the "fungus" as he preferred to call it, rather than ringworm, and I casually told him it was cured.

He said he had a light that would show if any remaining spores were present, and it might not be a bad idea to look at the site, and when he put this strange light on the spot, there, clear as day, were two squares where the adhesive from the band aid had been for about 3 or 4 days.

He was astounded, and said he needed to consult with some other skin men about the phenomena, and I told him to do it on his own, that as far as I was concerned, the problem was closed.

Maybe he wrote it up.

I hope it was published.

hmm... i really think i am too much of a baby to do that... but that is neat that it worked.... minus the pain of course!!

is that the same stuff that you can freeze off warts with??

I am the fungus-amung-us!

That's brand name econazole, another anti-fungal. Give it another week. If that does not work he will probably prescribe another; but it would not hurt to get it cultured. Then you will be sure about what you are dealing with. GOOD LUCK!

The stuff win win used was for althlete's foot, another fungi...there are a lot of fungi amongi...LOL. It won't work for warts, warts are viruses.
