hey all!
recently blue has lost a patch of fur on his cheek. i took him to the vet and they took a sample to see if it is ring worm. i heard that if you use a black light the area will glow green if it is ring worm. how accurate is this? i did that and it didn't glow. I called the vet today and she said it hasn't been ten days yet but so far it is negative (no ring worm!). anyone have any other ideas what this could be?
thanks so much you all!

There's no place like home
The black light works in about 50% of ringworm cases. Lost fur can be a lot of things related to either allergies or parasites. I lived in Houston for a few years - there are a LOT of allergens and fleas down there and could be just about anything.

Good luck!

Is it warm to the touch? If so, it could be an abscess forming. Does your kitty go outside? It's possible he got into a fight with another cat. If it is an abscess, your kitty will need to go back to the vet to have it drained. Antibiotics will probably be necessary to fight the infection. Good luck!

My Spot had an abscess that has reoccurred a couple of times, and he has been any indoor kitty since September! It is possible for cats to infect themselves if they puncture the skin while scratching. If the area is looking worse, I would take him back to the vet, or at least give them a call and ask for their advice. I hope your kitty feels better.
