Here is a site that measure the popularity or uniqueness (I don't use the phrase not popular) of your name. Again based on the US census.
http://www.namestatistics.com/

Interestingly enough the babywizard site posted by Beckiboo shows what I think to be the effect of the show Friends. Try the 6 names and most with the exception of Phoebe shows a steep decline in the 1990s. But the name Emma shot up drastically recently.

Susan is the #8 most common female name.
0.794% of females in the US are named Susan .
Around 1012350 US females are named Susan !

So much for being unique!

Ash, I can relate...

There are about 40 Jennifer's where I work. Obviously, it was the most popular name for girls of the 1970's.

you can say that again..I thought Cindy was too popular growing up..I only know one now and she is only an acquaintance..I get so excited when I see her as I can call someone else my name!
Though I grew up with a Cindy who also had the same birthday as me..
In high school, she changed her name to Danielle...No, not because of me

But with the Jens I know, I always have to go "blonde jen or Jen C?" and so on and so on....
