I have decided to send my foster kitten Matilda back to our ranch. Her siblings are doing great..but she isn't eating and she has a very bad case of pneumonia. She is on 3 medications..and she cries all night long. I'm not getting any sleep and I can't figure out how to help her. I have tried giving her KMR..but she's not eating enough and I'm not home to feed her every 2 hours.

Poor Matilda. I am sorry she is not doing well. You should not feel like a failure. You try so hard to save cats and kittens, and with all the good you have done, one that needs more than you can give her in no way makes you a failure. It just makes you overworked. Think of her siblings that are thriving, and all the past successes. You are not a failure!

Thats really hard.
Kittens are such tiny fragile creatures, and you need to be healthy and getting sleep yourself to be able to help them. You're not a failure at all!

I think it takes a brave and strong person to stand up and admit they have done what they can but know it isn't enough and be big enough to let go.

You should be praised not criticized.

OMG Katie, are you kidding me? You can do alot of things, but you can't split yourself in two so you can be with Matilda and work too. You've done a wonderful job keeping her going thus far...from your other posts, it sounds like she's quite a sick baby. How wonderful that you have a place at your disposal that you can rely on to help out. That frees you to take care of the rest of the litter, and maybe it's better for the others so they don't get sick as well.

Katie, you're doing the right thing for this kitten. The rescue ranch might be just the thing that saves her. We have a kitten with a cleft lip at our shelter, and the usual foster mom couldn't take him because of major surgery. Timmi has had to be bottle fed around the clock, and it has gone surprisingly well, because a number of volunteers come in at "their" fixed time to feed him, and nobody is missing work, school, or sleep, or feeling totally overwhelmed.
Stop kicking yourself!

Katie, you have taken the absolute best care of this precious baby! I so much admire your hard work and determination. You're making the best decision now. You have given Matilda so much wonderful love when she needed it most and forever changed her life for the better, just as you do for all the countless kitties whose lives you touch. You're such a hero, Katie!

Just so everyone knows...Matilda died the day before I was going to take her back. I created a post in the crossing the bridge forum.

Good bye sweet Matilda.
