How many of these can we come up with? Names that sound like something else:

Justin Thyme
Seymour Katz
Ima Maus
Linda Hand
Hugh Jass
Amanda Hugginkiss
I. P. Frealey

(The credit for the last 3 goes to Bart Simpson)

I still have this newspaper article that Mum read to me when I was a tiny thing - it's all old and worn now, but it's on this subject, weird names that actually exist. It is hysterical. Examples:

Freida Egg
April Showers
Rose Budd
Preserved Fish (and yes I am dead serious)
Loda Gunn

Oh there's heaps more that I can't remember but I'll dig it up.

This too, is a true name. Some cousin or other of my husband's:

Misty Summer Knight

I told him it sounds like it should be some porn actress' nom de plume.

Sometimes a child's name can have unforeseen consequences. My husband and I named our daughter Faith because we had waited a long time for her and kept telling each other to 'have faith' that it would happen. Then I sent her to a French school, where the kids had difficulty pronouncing 'th'. She came home crying at 5 years old because she was being called 'Fesse' which means 'butt' in French! So much for a beautiful name! But now she likes it.

Oh, I remembered another one. I have a book on Aquarium Plants that I picked up at Books-A-Million. The author's name:

Peter Hiscock

I kid you not. I'm assuming that this is his real name as I can think of no reason to put a pen name on a book about aquarium plants, and why the dickens would anybody use a pen name like that for such a book anyway
?
