My little Princess Leia is now 6 weeks old and she is constantly sitting, laying, or attacking our air vent. It is a floor vent but the slats are so narrow there is no way she can fall in it. We actually had to turn the A/C on for a couple of days but then had to go back to heat. Should I worry about her peeing in the vent? Does anyone elses Cat have this odd addiction?

I am not sure why you are worried about her peeing in the vent?
Is she having litterbox issues?

5-6 weeks is much too young to be away from mama, but now that you have her I suppose that is a moot point..However, she is missing crucial information that is taught by the mamacat in this period. That is why I am wondering if you are referring to a specific issue.

Otherwise, she likely likes the vent because its warm.

She is a bottle baby. I am her Mom. I have raised her from the day she was born and her mother rejected her. She uses the litter box most of the time but will pee where she is if she is having to much fun to seek it out. She currently has more than one litter box in an attempt to make finding them easy for her but it is impossible to put them everywhere. I am concerned with the sanitary aspect of her peeing in the vent. If she is playing with it (she attacks it when the air is moving) will she want to pee on it. I think she sits on it waiting for it to blow air. I also noticed her attacking the plug in air freshener the other day so I think the moving air is what she likes. I just wonder #1 does anyone else (for fun of discussion sake) have a cat that does this also and #2 Does anyone think I need to worry that she might take to peeing in the vent. (We had a dog that did that once. What a mess!) and if so should I start discouraging her to play with it.

My female is addicted to the vents.
As soon as she hears the furnace turn on, she will RUN to the vent and sit or lay on it. I doubt that your kitty wants to urinate on the vent, unless of course, there is some underlying medical (UTI) or behavioral condition. Does your kitty look like this?

Uggh...now, I understand...
Perhaps as Hissy always suggests, you could use several of those little throwaway roast pans (the aluminum ones)?
That way you can use more of them and they don't take up much space.

Otherwise, I have never heard of this peeing in the vent thing with either cat or dog!

That is sooo cute. I am glad you posted the picture. She has not laid on it sideways yet. Actually she does not sleep sideways that I have caught her anyways unless she is sleeping in my arms. She usually hunkers down and wraps her tail around her front feet when she is on the vent and when she is in her kitty condo she is spread eagle on her tummy!!! Kitties are so funny!!

Trust me, you are not missing out on that experience. I will see about placing a few more little litter pans for her. Hopefully that will make it so she wants to always find them. This morning she was playing on the bed and without warning or anything she just went! She did it so fast that I did not even realize until she was done....little snot!
