I don't know what to do! Dory was spayed on Monday, and when I came home from dropping her off at the vet Vader, our other cat, was very cuddly and more affectionate than usual. It was like he was glad she was gone. I brought Dory home on Tuesday morning, and now Vader is hissing at her and me, and starting to actually bat at her and try to attack her when she gets too close to him. Before this they got along great and cuddled all the time (after an initial adjustment period when we got Dory last July). This is making me so sad! I have Vader locked in the basement (with food, water, litter, etc.) and I have Dory upstairs with me. I don't want Vader to feel rejected, but I don't want him hurting Dory and popping her incision open. I'm also afraid he'll hurt her feelings, honestly. He's kinda pissing me off! What do I do?

This is a common occurrence because your spayed kitty smell different. She has stress pheremones on her, and drug smells and people smell and your other cat thinks she is an alien. You need to go and buy some pure vanilla extact from the baking section of the grocery store and start putting it on both cats- under their chins, on their shoulder blades and the base of their tails. Do this several times a day, you don't need a lot of it, just a dab just to make them scent neutral,

Yes, some pets get confused when one of their roommates comes home from the vet. It is usually a scent issue and you should take hissy's advice as an excellent first step that will most likely resolve the problem.
