I need help! My 4-5 week old kitty was recently diagnosed with megaesophagus. I've read everything there is on the internet. I want to hear from people who cares for these special cats. Thanks.

I wish I had some words of wisdom, or personal experience with this, hopefully someone else on the boards has and will answer soon.

Hello,

I dont want to bear any bad news, but my baby just had to be put down because the symptoms that can be underlying with megaesophageus.   I found the most precious little calico kitten at 6 weeks of age and had her for just 2 years.   Her name was sparkey!   I had to put her down just yesterday and my heart is broken in pieces.    I loved her every day she was here.    I think her case was extremely severe.  I am hopeful that your case will be better.    My suggestion is to keep her always comfortable.   Keep her on antibiotics as needed to keep away pneumonia.    Please make sure you give you baby something for upset stomach after she eats-  over the counter anti acid for people works.   The vet told me I could do it.    Put it in water and miss it up.   Use pepcid or zantac or maloxx.   just dilute it and use a syringe.    I did this everytime for sparkey after she ate.   It helped.    You can also give zofran.    Also, please get your baby a specialist.   I wish I had done more.   I just was given no hope from the beginning.    BUT - there are things you can do to make your baby more comfortable and that is all I did.    The throwing up after each meal can be hard to deal with, but I did stop that with the pepcid and other anti-acids.    The hard part is the pneumonia that can take them from us too soon because of the aspiration.    I believe that is what took my sparkey.    Her case was so very severe though.   Even in the early days, she was not able to play like a normal kitten, so there is probably more hope for yours.    But just be on top of the issues and dont get discouraged.   You can feed her through a syringe with broth or whatever.     Never give up.

Make sure after your kitten eats she is layed up on a pillow with her head at the pillow and the body lower.   It helps the food get down.   If that makes sense.   Just  little things do help!     My baby just was too sick.

Please tell me how you are doing with your little one.   I think sparkey was a hard case.  I hope yours not as severe.     Lots of love to you and your kitty.
