Which one of us lives out in the "boonies"? My friend just emailed me and was telling me how her car wasn't working, so she walked the 4 miles one way to the grocery store! I love the country, but whew!!!! LOL

Well, we used to be in the middle of nowhere. We've been discovered!

When the parents moved out here (Mom's old homestead) the highway from Evansville stopped at the highway to our place. Even though there was a sign with a double arrow meaning you can only go right or left, invariably someone would plow through it. The sign started as a small one, and kept getting larger and larger. Finally they went back to the original - even though it was bent up.

Closest grocery is 3 1/2 miles.

Well, we have 25 acres just out of town, between two and three miles from the city limits. But my nearest neighbor is a quarter to a half mile away, the nearest church is 7/10 of a mile and the nearest convenience store is about two miles away.

the nearest grocery store to my house is probably 8-10 miles but we do have a lot of gas stations within a 5 mile radius. But I wouldn't walk out here, you're likely to get attacked by an animal or a crazy person.

We live about 1 hr from Seattle proper and 2 miles from the nearest anything - like gas or groceries. 2 miles is pretty easy out here, the terrain is relatively flat/soft hills as we're up on a plateau in the foothills before the mountains. I love it. At night there are millions of stars, and there is a new baby goat down the street. Here is the backside of our area:

LOL! Susie!
Tell me that 3 months into our winter rainy season with pine needles hitting your windows and 50 mph winds, and no sun for weeks!

I lived in the boonies as a kid, but now I live about 3/4 of a mile from Save-a-Lot, and 2 miles from Wal-Mart (hate W-M, but it's a necessary evil, being the cheapest place around). And the vet's office is even closer than W-M. I have all I need w/in 5 miles.

Elizabeth, that is beautiful, and you took such a great pic!

I live in the boonies. When people take walks around here, they often carry a big stick in case a dog is rambunctious. My nearest neighbor is only about 30 ft away, but the next house is 1/2 mile away. Across the street is a hayfield, down the road is a dairy farm. Within a mile is a place where they board horses.

My place is as pretty as Elizabeth's, if you replace the lake and mountains with manure piles! (Bwa-ha-ha-ha!)

You know, your area is gorgeous on summer mornings... I love your area - I was born in Chicago so I have ties in Illinois. I love the large, leafy trees, everything is so lush, and there's a very graceful quality of your land. Our land here is so majestic, it's loud!
