This is the first time I am fostering a mom and kittens and although I should know better than to name 2 week old kittens....I couldn't help myself. Mom and 2 of the kittens seem to be doing fine..but little Matilda (who was obviously the runt) has a very serious upper respitory infection. I rushed her to my vet today and they gave her fluids and sent me home with Clavamox to give her 3 times a day. The vet said her prognosis was still very guarded. She is about half the size and weight of her sisters. She has endeared herself to me as she was the first to open her eyes and she is truly a fighter...so I'm hoping she will make it. Any prayers and thoughts for Matilda are appreciated.

Oh the poor baby! Good thoughts, healing vibes, and prayers coming Matilda's way!

Of course you named her...everyone deserves a name. You've chosen a lovely one for her.

I do hope she makes it. It is impossible sometimes not to become really involved with one particular kitten or cat.

A short Matilda update...this morning Matilda was just as sick as the day before (wheezing, coughing, crying)...I gave her the .05 dose of clavamox and put her back in with her siblings. Tonight I'm picking up some KMR as I don't think she nursing enough. If things do not improve by tomorrow, I'm taking her back to the vet.

Unfortunately she is having trouble breathing. The upper resp. is in her lungs. I'm at work right now but will give another update once I get home.

Well Katie, when we found Petals, she was 4 weeks old and had a bad URI. She too was having trouble breathing and we ended up putting her in a big cage, tented it with a sheet, (but left it open in the back) and put a little bit of Vicks in a humidifier in the cage. Her breathing got better, and the vet said he didnt' know if it was what we did or the meds or just God, but she is a big, healthy cat now! It may or maynot work for you, but it might be worth a try.

Just another update on Matilda....I bought a bottle and a can of KMR and have been trying to feed Matilda a few drops every 30 minutes. She is grudgingly accepting some of it..but more ends up on her face then in her mouth. Tonight will be her 2nd night receiving Clavamox....if I check on her tomorrow and she isn't doing any better, I will take her back to the vet.
