Hi Everyone,

I am going to bring Tyson to the vet this weekend but was wondering if anyone had any insight into his problem. Just yesterday I noticed that he has been scratching/licking more than normal and there are a couple clumps of fur missing from his backside area. He also sneezed a couple times the other day. Do you think it could be allergies
I know some cats get allergies really bad. Is there anything over the counter that I give him (until we see the vet) to help with the scratching

I feel bad for the poor guy!!!

Thanks!

Cats don't sneeze due to allergies, the itching near the rump sounds like a flea allergy. Cats with flea allergies are HIGHLY sensitive to just one bite and it causes a reaction that will last for quite some time. If an allergy is the case, there's really nothing you can give them over the counter to help.

Well, he could have fleas. Although he doesnt go outside, it's possible that fleas made it into the house. The eggs could have been there when you moved in, or they could have hitched a ride on you.

I took Tyson to the vet and thank god there are no fleas and he doesn't seem to have allergies. The Doc. said that he had an infection in his anal sac. I know it sounds nasty and it was nasty when he stuck his finger up his butt. He said that cats with this infection usually scratch near there butt because they think they can relieve some of the pain???

Has anyone ever heard of this
I never have but I want to do more research on it. he gave him an anitbotic and said he should be fine!

I haven't seen them scratch at it, but rather scoot their rear ends on the floor to releive the pain/pressure.

He hasn't been scratching as much down there so I hope this gets rid of the problem.
