Hi all, just got a new kitten two days ago. The cat is named Steve, is ~8 weeks old, and is a black longhair male mix. So far, all he does is sleep when in his room and when he is out in the house, he just comes to me and wants me to pet him, which is all good. But I have seen very little playful activity from him, he just seems to ignore whatever I do or put in front of him. I have bought several toys including balls, catnip mice, fishing pole toys excetera.

Is something wrong or is he just mellow? Is 8 weeks young for them to really play a lot? Help me out here!

Dont be surprised if this gets moved to the behavior fourms. Have you taken him to the vet yet if not do it pronto! 8 weeks is a little young to be away from the mother and litter mates so its possible your kitten hasnt learned to play with toys yet ( if this isnt a health issue) Is he eatting ok? getting enough water? My one cat was like this just very mellow in the beginning then came around once he gets comfy he probably turn into a crazy man!

A trip to the vet should always be the first thing you do, so you don't bring home any new parasites or viruses that could pose a health hazards for other pets or you.
